Best December for PS3 since launch, says SCEA

PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Network saw their best December since US launch in November '06, SCEA has said.

PS3 hardware saw a 90 percent hardware increase, while software rose 60 percent YoY, according to a statement from senior director of corporate communications and social media at SCEA, Patrick Seybold.

PSN, meanwhile, had its "single highest revenue month": jumping 155 percent from December 2008.

Final Fantasy VIII and PixelJunk Shooter were the two biggest downloaded games from the service last month.

Last week at CES, SCEI head Kaz Hirai said that over 3.8 million PS3s were sold worldwide during the Christmas perioid, with 1.7 million units sold in the US alone.

Expect to get a final number on PS3 hardware sales in tonight's NPD.
