Meier: Facebook allows approach at Civ MMO “from a new direction”

Sid Meier has told GamePro that the advent of Facebook has allowed him to rethink prospects for a Civ MMO.

“It’s really fun to play with your friends, who you meet in real life and have something to talk about with,” he said. “Facebook delivers that aspect. It provides an infrastructure that gives us a leg up and feasibility.

“The idea of a Civilization MMO has been rolling in my head for a long time, but has not been possible despite being a very cool single player experience – thank goodness for that. But this was a way to stretch that out and come at it from a new direction.”

Meier was speaking in a phone interview subsequently put into the latest Gamers with Jobs podcast.

You can listen to Meier chat about social gaming and the Civ MMO at around the 36 minute mark.

This isn’t the first time Meier has chatted about the Civ MMO, and despite this, there’s still no date.
