A 19-year-old college student in Tennessee named David Scherer has beaten the current play-time record for GTA IV, previously held by Indian equity broker Chirantan Patnaik.
The previous record had the game played for 40 hours and 20 minutes, but Scherer beat the time by one minute as of today at 4.22am EST. He was still playing at 6.30am when the news broke.
According to CBS news affiliate WTVF-TV of Nashville (via Kotaku), Scherer claims to have completed more of the game than Patnaik, and also bragged that he had taken one less wizzy break than the record’s previous holder – who took four.
Scherer said the play marathon was to raise money, so his swim team -of which he is the assistant coach – could build an indoor pool.
