NCsoft has released £1.99 "starter packs" of its larger MMO titles, such as City of Heroes, City of Villains, Guild Wars and Lineage II, the company confirmed today.

The packs contain the game and two week's free play, after which gamers can decide whether or not they want to go back to the retailer and buy the full product, or... not.

"The Starter Packs are an exciting retail initiative to drive physical sales of NCsoft titles at store level. At £1.99 they represent great value for money to players interested in online gaming and through their messaging will drive sales back to the retail outlet," said NCsoft's Duncan Hamilton.
