Lost Odyssey’s global project manager, Hees Kyung, has said that biggest challenge with Lost Odyssey was to convince gamers that 360 was also the home of the best JRPGs.
“The unique challenge that this game faced with was to arouse the excitement around the game community and to help lead them to believe that the best games including Japanese RPGs are available and exclusive on the Xbox 360,” he said in a Gamedaily interview.
It appears the challenge has been overcome, in America at least. With Lost Odyssey being the seventh biggest selling game in February in the US, Hees Kyung has every reason to feel pleased with its progress.
“We’re certainly excited about and proud of the momentum that we’ve seen with the title thus far,” he said. “This demonstrates the level of enthusiasm that the gaming community had in the game before its release. Our hope is that the game continues to sell and gamers beyond RPG fans embrace it.”
Microsoft made some headway with the title in Japan: the game was one of the few 360 releases to get into the charts in the anti-Xbox stronghold, debuting in sixth position when it launched last December. But it barely achieved 100,000 sales in total, with rival 360 RPG Blue Dragon outselling it by roughly double.
