20 million people sign up for Minecraft, 4.65 million copies sold

Minecraft creator Markus Persson has revealed via a tweet that Minecraft now has 20 million registered users.

He said that of the 20,121,024 users that have signed up for the game, 23.33% of them have actually bought it. That's 4.67 million people.

Free users can still play Minecraft but are given limited access, with only the Minecraft Classic build being accessible. Paid users have access to the game's survival mode, and various other features like hunting, and picking apples from trees.

Minecraft crossed the 4 million sales mark back in November. Persson has stepped down from his position as lead developer of the game citing "rest and new projects" as the reason.
