A certain Mr Yoshinori Ono, executive producer on the Street Fighter series, has dropped a few hints on Twitter about a new fighting game being in the works at Capcom. He tweeted this morning: “I want… no, Capcom wants Game Designer and programer for New Fighting Game. Its location at Tokyo or Osaka Studio.”

Deep Down was shown off by Capcom at Sony’s press event in Japan yesterday, and last week Yoshinori Ono has confirmed that the title is exclusive to PS4.

In addition to his exisiting appointment as deputy head of consumer games R&D, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has accepted a position as a corporate office at Capcom Japan. On Twitter, the famously friendly industry veteran said it might be “tough” to enjoy the new role in addition to his current duties; Ono was taken ill last year due to overwork and has since publicly criticised Capcom for the pressure it places on staff.

During Sony’s PS4 announcement last week, Yoshinori Ono took to the stage and presented a trailer for Capcom’s debut game on the platform, a rather-lovely looking project codenamed ‘Deep Down’. Ono has now explained why Capcom has focused on a new IP for PS4, rather than making a next-gen sequel.

Street Fighter creator Yoshinori Ono has a habit of asking event audiences to pose for photographs which he then takes back to his Capcom overlords as proof of demand for a new Darkstalkers game.
“This year, you don’t have to do that, and it’s not necessarily bad news,” Ono told Comic Con attendees this year, according to Siliconera, before hastily warning that he can’t say anything else right now.
