Microsoft has gone a little mad buying out just about every version of XboxGold.com it can find, Fusible reports. Naturally this has led to some furious speculation over whether we have a name for the next Xbox console at last, but don’t get too excited; “Xbox Gold” sounds a heck of a lot like “Xbox Live Gold”, so it could just be a defensive measure against scam websites and similar. The next Microsoft console is codenamed Durango and is frequently nicknamed “Xbox 720″ but we honestly have no idea what the damn thing will be called.

Both VG247 and CVG’s sources had earlier indicated an April event, and a recent domain registration hints that we don’t have long to wait. Microsoft has renewed its trademark for Project Gotham Racing, according to Trademarkia. The trademark covers “computer programs, namely, game software for use on computers and video game players” and was first registered in 2001 ahead of the first entry in the series, an Xbox launch title. The renewal is just good business practice but has reignited excitement over rumours that Lucid Games is developing a new Project Gotham game for the next Xbox console.

That’s the claim of one site, whose sources suggest that the console will work with all Microsoft ‘Xbox’ branded devices and media, including a new X-Surface gaming tablet. The device is rumoured to have been seen running Unreal Engine 3 games at 60 FPS recently.
