Blizzard’s confirmed that Wrath of the Lich King has sold 2.8 million copies in 24 hours to become the fastest selling PC game ever.

The WoW expansion beat the 2.4 million units sold by previous add-on The Burning Crusade in 2007.

“We’re grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft,” said Blzizard boss Mike Morhaime.

“Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we’ve created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead.”

No plans to change WoW pricing in the US, says Morhaime

wowwrathofthelichking10.jpg

Speaking to MTV at the Wrath of the Lich King launch this week, Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime said that the American subs rate for World of Warcraft won’t be changing in the US any time soon.

“The monthly rate for WoW in the United States has not changed, and we’re not planning any changes to it,” said the exec.

Note the “United States” bit. just to compound the point he was talking specifically about America, Morhaime added:

“I think we’re pretty happy with our pricing in the United States. I think it feels right to us and our players.”

No mention of Europe or Asia there, is there?

wowwrathofthelichking31.jpg

Like, dur. Swedish paper the Kvällsposten’s reporting that a 15 year-old boy collapsed and started convulsing after playing Wrath of the Lich King for 24 hours without a break this week.

His father’s now warning other parents of the dangers of not eating, sleeping and working hard at a computer for unnatural lengths of time.

Message to world: stop being so fucking stupid, please.

All WotLK raid content defeated

wowwrathofthelichking16.jpg

All the Wrath of the Lich King raiding content has been cleared by a European guild less than three days after the expansion released.

“We are proud to declare that all WOTLK PVE raid content has now been cleared,” said the TwentyFifthNovember guild in a note on its site.

“This is both a moment of triumph and a cause for concern. The question in all our minds right now is if we could do this, how soon until the rest of the top guilds in the world clear all the raid content that WOTLK has to offer? Did Blizzard miscalculate in the tuning of these encounters? Or is this Blizzard folding under the weight of a large casual player base that demands to be on equal footing with end-game raiders?”

What are they going to do now, Blizzard? You’d best hurry up with some new content, innit.

Thanks, Eurogamer.

Wrath of the Lich King box-art leaked

On WoWInsider. Probably the most shocking thing about this is the fact that Blizzard can keep Diablo III under wraps for four years but can’t do the same with a bit of WoW artwork. No matter. At least it shows the expansion’s properly on the way. Beta starts soon, so watch out for more from that.

According to this Death Knight post, an Achievement system in the World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King Alpha test can be accessed by typing in “/achievement”.
