Blizzard announces price drop on WoW expansions in Europe

wow-010712

Blizzard has announced it’s cut the price of World of Warcraft expansions in Europe at both retail and through the Blizzard Store. Those who have yet to purchase expansions for the MMO, or who are just new to the fray, can now pick up Wrath of the Lich King for €19.99 and Cataclysm for €29.99. At present, there hasn’t been a price cut announcement for the US, as both expansions are listed on the store for $39.99; however, some retailers sell it for less than the suggested retail price, so it might be in your best interest to shop around.

WoW turns seven next week, new TV commercial to air tomorrow

wow commerical tease

Believe it or not, World of Warcraft will turn seven this coming Wednesday, November 23, and in celebration, Blizzard will be handing out a Feat of Strength along with a gift that contains fireworks, and temporarily grants a special tabard along with a 7% experience point and reputation bonus when used. On top of that, the developer will be airing a new TV commercial during the Chargers vs Bears NFL game this Sunday (tomorrow) on CBS. The commercial features a mystery spokesperson, who will follow in the footsteps of previous WoW luminaries such as: Ozzy, Mr. T, William Shatner, Steve Van Zandt and Verne Troyer.

The commercial will air during the first half of the game, which should kick off around 1.15pm PST/4.15 EST, and if you’re not into football, just wait around a bit as some illustrious YouTube user will surely have it up 10 seconds after it first airs.

NetEase profits and revenue rise on Chinese WoW

WoW-1117

World of Warcraft’s Chinese operator, NetEase, has posted a 39.8% increase in year-over-year revenue, noting a profit rise of 41.3% to $128.2 million and revenues of $308.3 million. The upswing for the quarter ending September 30 is despite the decline in subscription numbers for the Blizzard MMO, which were down 800,000 to 10.3 million for the start of Activision’s Q3 financial period. The publisher attributed the loss of subs to the Asian market, which, at the end of Q2, helped bolster the subscription numbers to 11.1 million. Thanks, Gamasutra.

Bloomberg: Activision shares drop on loss of WoW subs

wow-monk

Activision Blizzard shares fell at the close of the bell yesterday 6.5% to $13.02, the biggest drop since February 10, according to Bloomberg, which attributed the drop to the loss of 800,000 World of Warcraft players. Subscriptions to the game now stand at 10.3 million for the start of the firms Q3 financial period. At the start of Q2, the MMO boasted 11.1 million subs.

As of this post, stock prices for the firm are up 15¢ to $13.17 or 1.15%, proving just much the market can fluctuate. Thanks, Develop.
