Worldwide releases: Friday, May 2

What can you possibly say about this week? The chances are you’ve already bought GTA IV, from the look of day one sales figures.

However, believe it or not, there are other games out on Friday, and let’s be fair to our Japanese brothers as they don’t get GTA until “this year”. What on earth are they going to do? Well, nothing it seems, as the pickings are so slim in Japan this week it’s almost as though GTA IV was released over there.

Nintendo isn’t afraid of the GTA-juggernaut, and is releasing Mario Kart Wii in the US. Iron Man also hits every console imaginable.

DS has the usual slew of games with exclamation marks in the title all aimed at trying to improve yourself, and PSP has a very quiet week indeed.

Apart from that, GTA IV is now out in the US and Europe, and you’re all probably too busy playing it to care about anything else.

Worldwide releases: Friday April 25

Calm before the GTA storm this week, unless you’re a Western Wii owner or live in Japan and like your DS – as several million of you do, apparently.

US PS3 gamers do get the CoD4: Modern Warfare GotY Edition, however, and NBA Ballers: Chosen One also makes its multiplatform debut Stateside.

The aforementioned basketball bash also hits 360 owners in Europe, with no PS3 games released whatsoever over here (no PSP either), which, if you check out the last few weeks, is something of a recurring trend.

Japan’s a little luckier with the much anticipated Senjou no Valkyria (Valkyria Chronicles) available.

Unbelievably, there are a grand total of 36 DS games coming out worldwide this week, with the Japanese market hoarding 25. Maybe that’s the secret to selling loads of units, eh?

Worldwide releases: Friday, April 18

Finally America can share in the Gran Turismo: Prologue love, as it goes on sale this week Stateside. That’s about it for PS3 releases worldwide this week, apart from EA’s next FIFA instalment and Time Crisis 4 debuting in the EU. Yet again, no new PS3 games for Japan.

Xbox 360 takes a break from giving you something new to play in Japan and the US for the second week running, and apart from UEFA, GRAW2: Legacy Edition is the only 360 title you can look forward to in Europe this week.

The Americans can finally get their hands on Capcom’s cult art-house Japanese title, Okami Wii, Japan says no on the new Nintendo Wii game front. Europe sees Emergency Mayhem release for Wii this week, and for that you’ll have to be thankful for now.

DS puts all other formats to shame on Friday, with plenty of games to mosey through including The Sun Crossword Challenge in Europe. Our brothers across the Pond need not feel left out, as they have High School Musical 2: Work This Out! to help pass the time whilst on those yellow school buses, or whatever it is they do over there.

In fact, the overall list is pretty meagre this week we think. Click the link below to see if anything takes your fancy.

As ever, we doth our caps in Gamasutra’s general direction for the info.

Mario Kart Wii is the only major release this week, making its debut in Europe and Japan.

In the US and EU, PC fans get the Assassins Creed director’s cut, along with separate retail versions of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode Pack.

For the two of you who haven’t bought it yet, CoD4: Game of the Year Edition arrives in Europe.

It’s also worth pointing out that this is the second week running the PS3 has seen no games released Stateside, although the long awaited GT5: Prologue arrives next week.

Worldwide releases: Friday April 4

We’re doing this weekly from now on. Here’s everything releasing globally for the week ending April 4.

It’s not the prettiest. Cod4: Game of the year Edition and Condemned 2 are the only stand-out titles released in North America and Europe this week, and Microsoft’s Japanese push is still going strong with a grand total of zero games coming out in the East.

PlayStation 3 does its bit on Friday: there’s not a single title coming out for the machine in the US.

The best news is reserved for Wii owners, however, as not one game will see air on the system anywhere in the world this week. Broadening the demographic, right there.

See list after link. Thanks to Gama for the info.

A bumper Friday this week, with all platforms having plenty to offer no matter where you live.

With games like Crisis Core VII (PSP) coming out Stateside, GT5: Prologue (PS3) for Europe and Raiden Fighters Aces (360) for Japan, everyone can be jealous of other people for being somewhere else. A happy state of affairs.
