Riccitiello: Motion controllers won’t replace traditional controllers

EA boss John Riccitiello has said that traditional gaming controllers won’t be replaced by the wave of motion controllers that’s hit the market in recent years.

Wii Fit Plus out October 4, new Wiimote and DSi colours shown
Wii Fit Plus will launch in the US on October 4, NoA’s Reggie Fils-Aime said at the 2009 GameStop Manager Conference today.
The exec also announced new US colours for DSi, the Wiimote and Wii MotionPlus. As of September 13, DSi will be available in white and pink: the machine’s currently on sale in blue and black in the States.
The Wiimote and Wii MotionPlus will get new black SKUs.

Nintendo files patent for blood pressure Wiimote
Spong’s found yet another US Nintendo patent, this time for a Wiimote that takes your blood pressure.
That’s it, really. The device would b designed to read “pulse and body temperature of a user playing a video game on the video game console, and a rotation counter for counting the number of rotations of the main body.”

Xbox 360 “Wiimote” before year-end
So MTV reckons. Apparently a motion-sensing controller for Xbox 360 has been in the works since last August, and will hit this Christmas. According to MTV News, Rare has been working on the hardware alongside the new Banjo. From the article:
While nothing has been officially announced, MTV News’ source was able to provide us with details on one such 360 controller in the making: a controller designed to do all the Wii remote does, and more. Our source chose to remain anonymous in the interest of not compromising business relationships, but MTV News has confirmed Microsoft’s active interest in developing a motion-sensitive controller with other industry sources.
The project has been in active development at Microsoft since last August, the source said. Rare, the Microsoft-owned studio behind Xbox 360′s launch first-person shooter “Perfect Dark Zero” and the upcoming installment of the “Banjo-Kazooie” franchise, has been tasked with creating a unified interface and look for the controller. Rare has had trouble hitting its deadlines, according to the source.
