Nintendo will host a Wii U press event in New York City on September 13. The event is to be presented by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, with select media outlets today receiving invitations. The press event promises to reveal “more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment.” The last time Reggie hosted a press event in NYC was to announced the release date of 3DS, which was back in January 2011. Before that, the NYC venue was the Wii launch event. Still, we won’t know whether Nintendo will announce the release date for Wii U or not until the event occurs. GameTrailers’ editor-in-chief, Shane Satterfield, has said the site heard through “certain channels” Wii U will cost $299 when it hits retail during the holidays. Nintendo has yet to announce a price for the system, but it hasn’t stopped some retailers, such as Amazon Germany to list the console for €349.00.  The online retailer and GameStop have both listed some Wii U games for $100, numbers Nintendo said were all fictitious. Third party titles are listed on GameStop for between $49.99 and $59.99, which is the norm for new releases at present. Thanks, Gematsu.
