Wii Street U gets the “Iwata Asks” treatment, reveals Google Maps’s insane attention to detail
Wii Street U is the incoming Google Maps app for Nintendo’s console. It’s the subject of this week’s edition of “Iwata Asks”, a panel session featuring developers and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata himself. The session has revealed Google’s incredible level of detail. They’ve even mapped the sky this time.

Two Nintendo Directs aired simultaneously in Europe and North America today. The big news? Western release dates for Animal Crossing New Leaf and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for 3DS.

Wii Street U now available in Japan
Nintendo and Google have released Wii Street U, a version of Google Maps especially for the Wii U which allows users to conduct virtual tours in their living rooms using the Wii U pad to navigate. If you have access to the Japanese Nintendo network store, you can check it out here – it’s about a 90MB download, according to GoNintendo. Nintendo Everything has a trailer showing off the app, and here’s a picture of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata wearing one of the Google camera rigs used to film narrow spaces, because why not.
