An unnamed retail source has revealed to MCV that the UK’s current Wii SKU is to be replaced with new bundle that included Will Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii MotionPlus.

However, it is not believed that the new bundle will be less expensive than the current offering.

If the report is accurate, this will be the first time MotionPlus or Wii Sports Resort has been officially bundled with the Wii console.

Wii Sports Resort will not replace Wii Sports bundled with Wii any time soon.

This is according to Nintendo of Canada’s Matt Ryan, who told Toronto Thumbs that Sports Resort was a more “full-on software that you’re used to purchasing at retail at that price point” where as Wii Sports is more-or-less just designed to show what the Wii Remote can do.

“The long-term plan is difficult to say, but I can tell you that there are no plans to make Wii Sports Resort what is packed in with the Wii purchase,” Ryan said. “What is in the Wii box will remain the same.”

Nintendo announced sales numbers for some of its titles in the last quarter, and the numbers are not too shabby, especially considering four titles sold over one million copies between April and July.

• Pokemon Platinum DS, moved 1.91 million copies during the quarter and has sold 5.66 million worldwide
• Wii Fit sold 3.6 million copies, making LTD 21.82
• Mario Kart Wii sold 2 million with LTD 17.39 million
• Wii Sports sold 1.91 million copies, bringing total sales to 47.62 million which includes the sales of bundled versions

According to the official Nintendo Korea site, Wii is now confirmed to launch in the country on April 26, priced 220,000 won (£114). GoNintendo’s reporting that the system will release with eight games including Wii Sports (system sold by itself), Wii Play, Super Swing Golf 2 and Zack and Wiki.

Following Americans hurting themselves trying to throw imaginary baseballs at 100mph, Nintendo has sought to tell the US consumer the bleeding obvious: don’t try to sprint a mile if the only exercise you’re used to is standing up so you can sit down again on the toilet.

“As when beginning any new physical activity, it’s best to pace yourself and not overdo it,” said a company spokesperson. “Some games, including Wii Sports, include in-game reminders for players to take a break every now and then.”

The statement was made in response to a growing number of people being treated for Wii-related injuries, such as bus driver Anthony Williams, forced to take a week off work after developing severe tendonitis through his quest to achieve virtual baseball glory.

“As time went on it was waking me up at night, the soreness,” he said. “That’s when I went to see my doctor.”

“It takes you aback initially when you hear about someone playing a video game in front of their TV and having a sports injury,” said his physician, David Buchalter. “It’s really a new version of sports injury.”

Campaign For Real Education spokesman Nick Seaton has battered a Worcestershire school trial which uses Wii games to encourage pupils that consistently miss sports lessons to be physically active.

“I think most sensible parents will think this is surrendering to the laziest pupils, it cannot possibly be any replacement for serious games and competition between peer group,” he told the well-balanced, un-mad Daily Mail.

The scheme, so far taken up by five schools in the UK county, is offering Wii Sports in tandem to the real thing in order to get the cool kids, like, you know, moving.

A spokesman for Droitwich and Worcester City School Partnership said: “The use of computer games to increase physical activity levels and raise attainment to some would seem contradictory but with rigid structures in place and by using specific games students soon found themselves being active and engaged almost without realising it.”

Nintendo UK marketing director, Dawn Paine, said at the time: “We now want to turn the living room into a fitness centre for the whole family. Perish the thought, but video games can now make you fit.”
