25 year-old man dies playing Wii Fit

A 25 year-old man the Telegraph is describing as “fit and well” has died during a Wii Fit “jogging” session.
“We spoke to him on the phone when he was playing on the Wii machine. He told us he had just ordered himself a kebab and was sitting there with a glass of port,” said Tim Eves’ mother.
“But a little while after he had put the phone down, he collapsed for no reason. It was completely out of the blue.
“They still can’t come up with an answer why it happened, which is one of the reasons it is so hard to come to terms with – there was no reason for it.
“It is just unbelievable.”

Wii Fit trumps Halo 3 sales in less than a year

Wii Fit will be one year old this May, and has already surpassed Halo 3 in US sales.
According to NPD numbers released yesterday, as of February 2009 the Nintendo title has sold 6 million copies in the US alone.
Halo 3′s sold 5.9 million since September 2007.
With such an influx of balance boards out there, Kotaku is quick to point out that developers will probably be lined up around the block to make games for it.
We’re not arguing.

Screen Digest analyst: Wii price hike is “perfectly justified”

Ed Barton, UK analyst for Screen Digest, has said that the British Wii price hike is “perfectly justified” and it should come as no surprise if Wii Fit goes up in price as well.
“If you look at the yen exchange rate over the pound in the previous year it has changed by thirty to forty percent”, he said. “We looked closely at Nintendo’s figures in the last quarter and this exchange rate has absolutely murdered their operating profit.
“When you look at all the data and financials it wouldn’t surprise me if Nintendo raised the price of Wii Fit. The margin on games hardware and peripherals is a serious problem right now”.
Over on Edge, Barton goes on at length about how retailers should deal with the raised price. He also says that the hike may hurt smaller speciality stores.
Thanks, GoNintendo.

Nintendo: Wii Fit’s been stocked weekly since launch
Nintendo’s admitted being “pleased” at seeing Wii Fit get back to the top of the UK charts this week, and has claimed stock for the global smash has been constant since release.
“Yes, we’re pleased,” a rep told us this afternoon when asked if the number one spot had raised a smile.
“We’ve always been bringing stock into the UK on a weekly basis ever since Wii Fit launched in April last year, and it’s encouraging to see that demand for Wii Fit appears to continue to be strong.”
Wii Fit has been a constant sell-out in Britain since launch.
The “game” has been a key driver for Nintendo in all regions since launch, with more than 3 million units now sold in Japan and 1 million units moved in the US in December alone.
No specific sales data has been released for the game in the UK.
