White Knight Chronicles servers to shutter
A post on the PlayStation community forums advises that online play for White Knight Chronicles and its sequel will close on June 18. The first of the Level-5 PlayStation 3 RPGs released in 2010, and the second arrived in 2011, both trailing a Japanese release. They feature a sort of MMO-lite multiplayer component, which despite lengthy single-player storylines, were really the heart of both games. Neither exactly set critics on fire, though. As US and European players shared servers, this appears to be the end, so get after any last trophies you were chasing.

Online system for White Knight Chronicles explained a bit

Level-5 has revealed to Sony that once players have completed Chapter One of White Knight Chronicles in Story Mode, the online mode will open up.
To get you sorted on the basics, Sony has posted a bit of an explanation of three of its features.
- GeoNet: A social networking service for online players, where you can meet and interact with other players to get set for multiplayer quests.
- Georama: Design your own HomeTown, which serves as a lobby for the online mode, and contains three different fields for 18 different building combinations. Players can make hedge mazes or pixel art and recruit NPCs from the story mode to come live in your town and give ‘em a job.
- Subquest: You control your own avatar in this mode, and as the story unfolds, quests will become available and you’ll accumulate points which will build your guild rank. The higher the rank, the more quests and weapons that are available for you. 50 subquests will be available at launch, and new ones will be added along the way online.
An exclusive feature for North American and European gamers is Rogue Galaxy’s Live Talk, which is part of voice chat allowing characters to issue a “huge variety of context-specific commentary as the quests unfold”.
The game’s out in spring 2010 and loads more can be learned regardin the online mode over on the US PS Blog.

Get a sneak peek of the E3 video for White Knight Chronicles

Level-5 has released a sneak peak video for White Knight Chronicles, its RPG that will be on hand at E3.
Being called the first “true online-enabled RPG on the PS3″, the game has an active turn-based battle system, and looks rather, well, pretty.
The video after the break doesn’t really show much more than the last video we posted of it, but it’s something new at least.
Game’s out this fall.

White Knight Chronicles trailer is full of RPG goodness

Sony and Level 5 released a story trailer today for White Knight Chronicles.
The RPG certainly looks very colorful, fanciful, suspenseful, plotful and other words that end in “ful”.
Have a look after the break.
Not sure when the PS3 exclusive will be released outside of Japan, but the trailer said “soon”.
Thanks, D’toid.

First White Knight Story DLC announced – images [updated]
Images after the break. The extra content will be available to download in Japan on January 15.
The DLC gives you some new uniforms and a quest rewarding you with the Sword of Magic.
It all sounds very exciting and Level 5 promises there will be more content to come.
It was recently confirmed that White Knight Chronicles will be released in the US sometime this year. Nothing on Europe so far, we’re afraid.
Update: The extra content is for the online mode and is recommended for players of level 36 and over. The content is called: ‘What are you looking for?’
Thanks, TripSkyWay.

White Knight Chronicles to get US release, online could be region locked
In a video interview (below) CEO and president Level-5, Akihiro Hino, has confirmed that RPG White Knight Chronicles wil get a North American release.
However, when quizzed on whether US gamers would be able to share online components with Japanese ones he simply stated that it “hasn’t been decided yet”.
White Knight Chronicles was released on Christmas Day in Japan off the back of a 29/40 score from Famitsu, and although a Western release was always likely, PS3F says this is the first official confirmation that it’s definitely coming.

White Knight Chronicles gets 29/40 in Famitsu
Famitsu’s given up a meagre 29/40 score for White Knight Chronicles, as relayed by NeoGAF.
The review summary through there doesn’t make it sound like the most thrilling thing in the world. Apparently is has patch-worthy chat issues and is “the same” a every other Level-5 RPG in that “sadness befalls the land”.
Still. It looks pretty. The Level-5 RPG releases in Japan on Christmas Day. No date for the West as yet.
