Vita firmware 2.0 now live
Sony has released a major update for the Vita, bringing the portable’s firmware to 2.0 and adding a number of interesting new features and capacities. Perhaps the most important additions are PlayStation Plus and the ability to use the browser mid-game, but check out the full patch notes through the break.

Vita firmware update makes browser usable mid-game
A Vita firmware update due this week brings the portable’s operating system to version 2.0, Sony Worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida revealed via Twitter. The update’s change list has not yet been released, but Yoshida said the Internet browser app has been made usable at the same time as games, and should also be faster in general.

Vita firmware 1.80 allows touch controls on PSP games – report
This week’s Vita system software update packs in a few unadvertised features as well as the much-advertised partial support for PSONe Classics. According to PSN Stores, the new firmware allows you to assign custom touchscreen controls to PSP games, and even to map the L and R triggers onto the right thumb stick – something of a boon in third-person games like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The firmware is available now from the US PlayStation network and arrives in Europe with this week’s network update.

Vita firmware update 1.67 out now, adds stability fixes
A small, optional firmware update is available for the PlayStation Vita. Firmware update 1.67, arriving just one week on from the last mandatory update, is not required for PlayStation Network use. It weighs in at 97 MB and “improves stability for some PlayStation Vita titles”.

PlayStation Vita gets updated to Firmware 1.52
Sony’s launched a small Firmware update for PlayStation Vita units in Japan, bringing it to 1.52. We’ve verified the update is indeed there, having to download it myself onto my Japanese unit. SCEJ hasn’t specified the reason why its pushed the update, but according to Andriasang, it’s to fix a V1.51 update where Japanese 3G systems are unable to recognise the SIM card.
Vita launches on February 22 in Europe and the US.
