VGAs 2012: a new hope (despite the Newell gaffe)
Two steps forward, one step back. Last night’s VGAs showed reason to hope for a respectable awards event in the years to come. They might want to leave Garry out of it next time, though. Catherine Cai reports from LA.

BioShock Infinite video shows Handyman, Elizabeth throwing books at DeWitt
Ken Levine took the stage at the 2012 VGAs to introduce the latest trailer for BioShock Infinite. It started out with DeWitt meeting Elizabeth for the first time – she threw books at him, and then the scene flashed forward to Booker fighting many enemies including the dreaded Handyman. Watch the video below. BioShock Infinite is out on March 26 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Square showed off a new Tomb Raider trailer during the 2012 VGAs tonight. It’s below courtesy of GameTrailers. Tomb Raider launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 5.

The Last of Us given a May release date during VGAs
A new video for The Last of Us was shown during the 2012 VGAs this evening, and what pleased folks most – other than the really nice trailer – was the announcement that the game would release in May. Speculation of a spring 2013 date appeared earlier this week, when Walmart listed the period when opening up pre-orders for the Naughty Dog title. At the end of the trailer, a May 7 date was shown. The crowd, literally roared in excitement. Sony has said more The Last of Us news will be posted on the PS Blog Sunday evening. Watch the trailer below.

Obsidian showed a debut trailer for its RPG, South Park: The Stick of Truth during the 2012 VGAs. It was an awesome video, and you can watch it below. South Park: The Stick of Truth releases on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in THQ’s “early fiscal 2014″.

BioShock Infinite video teases 15 seconds of full VGA reveal
A BioShock Infinite teaser has been released by Spike TV, to whet your appetite for the full trailer reveal during the VGAs this coming Friday evening. Watch it below. Debut trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man swings into the VGAs
Activision released the debut trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man during the VGAs this evening. The video showed rouge Oscorp robots taking over NYC in a very destructive manner, and Spider-Man fighting the metal maniacs as best he can before a massive worm-robot enters the scene. All was shown as though it was being broadcast on the local news, giving the player a third-person perspective on he situation. The Amazing Spider-Man is slated for a summer 2012 launch alongside the film of the same name, and is currently in development at Beenox Studios.

Hitman: Absolution video shows Agent 47 in hospital shoot-out
IO Interactive released a new Hitman: Absolution trailer during the VGAs pre-show, featuring Agent 47 going into a hospital with guns a’ blazing. You can watch all the carnage for yourself below. Hitman is due in 2012 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Spec Ops: The Line announced and trailered
2K’s just put out a press release for Spec Ops: The Line, the Yager shooter announced that the VGAs this weekend. Read the whole thing here and watch the first video after the break.
The game “unfolds within the destroyed opulence of Dubai,” apparently, and sees US Army Colonel John Konrad “and his loyal squad remained behind to protect those incapable of escape.”

VGAs – Force Unleashed II announced, trailered
Missed this one yesterday. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II was announced and trailered at the VGAs over the weekend, as you can see after the break.
It’s CG-only, showing the Apprentice facing off against large, nasty things in an arena.
