Sony has trademarked The Order: 1886 with the USPTO, and it’s listed as “computer game software…video game software.”

Bungie has filed some interesting trademarks with the USPTO. Each were filed on March 11 and more likely than not pertain to Destiny in some way. The trademarks Cabal, Fallen, Glimmer, Hive and Vex fall under the umbrella for a variety of uses:game software, novels, costumes, TV, ringtones, and oddly enough, footwear. While Fallen has previously been used in promo material, it is also known that Cabal and Vex are enemies in Destiny. The shared-worlds shooter is due on current and next-generation consoles in early 2014. Thanks, Gamespot.

Insomniac Games has filed a trademark for a project called Sunset Overdrive. Other than the usual “computer game software” classification lingo, along with a note that it’s an “on-line computer game,” there’s not much else to go on. A NeoGAF user also found a domain registration for the project, which was registered by the firm’s brand director Ryan Schneider. We’ll send a mail and see if we can get anything else on this, but in the meantime, the developer’s shooter FUSE is due during Q2 2013. Thanks, Dark Zero.

Microsoft filed a trademark application for “Marlow Briggs” on January 24 with the USPTO, and the application cites “game software” as the description. No other information was found in the application, but a representative for the firm told Gamespot it “often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy,” and beyond that it had no comment. This is the second games-related trademark dug up for the firm in the last two weeks, the other was “Gunpowder”. Let the speculation begin. We’re sure it’s not a sink, though.

Microsoft has filed a trademark application with the USPTO for something called Gunpowder. Other than the description “entertainment services, namely, providing online video games,” there is nothing else regarding the project available to deduce what it could entail. Bethesda has registered a trademark with the USPTO for “an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.” Fallout anyone? Note the word in the link there. The registration comes just a week after ThreeDog voice actor Erik Todd Dellums tweeted there may be more “of the Dog coming,” tweeting later he was “given permission to release that tease, so fingers crossed.” Speculation started running all over the place that a movie adaption was set for an announcement, or that Fallout 4 is in the works. Disney may have decided to focus on mobile and social games instead of console and PC release, but that hasn’t stopped the firm from filing a patent for a handheld gaming device.

Microsoft has filed two patent applications showing a Kinect-like device working with a mobile camera, and one for movie editing for “living room movie creation.” The later allows for movies that can be “directed, captured, and edited using a system that includes a depth camera,” and real-life objects can be used “as virtual props.” The filings are through here and here, and the link to Joystiq above explains both a bit more.

SOE has filed a trademark for Reign of Fear with the USPTO, which covers “computer game software and video game software; providing downloadable multiplayer, role playing, real time computer and video game software via an online website for entertainment purposes” and “entertainment services, namely, operating a multiplayer, role playing, real time game for others via the Internet and local area computer networks”. That’s all that Fusible could dig up on the matter, as a domain registration search turned up nada. The site suggests it could pertain to PlanetSide 2 in some way, but at this point, it could be anything.

ZeniMax has filed another trademark pertaining to Skyrim, and where as last month it was the shout Fus Ro Dah, this time it’s the term Dragonborn. It was filed on May 15 under goods and services, meaning it could pertain to anything gaming related or it was filed to stop people cashing in on unsanctioned t-shirts, bumper stickers or other consumer goods. Earlier this week, the firm sent a copyright infringement notice to the Dragon Shout app maker, and it’s worth noting that Dragonborn is also a race in Dungeons & Dragons, but we’re unsure at press time whether Wizards of the Coast have rights to the term or not. Diagrams posted over on NeoGAF show that at one time, Wii U’s controller had analogue sticks instead of the Circle Pad sliders similar to those of 3DS.

Patents filed with the USPTO office by Nintendo show that at some point, the firm was – and still may be – looking to incorporate HD and glasses-free 3D into its tablet-like controller for Wii U.

Capcom Japan has filed a trademark for a game called E.X. Troopers in the US and Europe. Spotted by Siliconera, its sounds to us like a shooter where you will play a trooper of some sort. We have no creative thought as to what the initials E.X. would stand for, though. Maybe extreme? Extreme Troopers? If that’s the case, maybe it’s mechs. Who knows. As usual, we’ll send a mail. Microsoft has filed a trademark with the USPTO for Iron Brigade, and the description says only that it is “computer software” and that it was filed on July 26. The site Fusible, which dug the application up, suggests it could be in reference to a Union army unit from the Civil War, the 150th anniversary of which is this year. Take-Two’s trademark filing for Rockstar Films, which was submitted on December 21, 2010 has been approved by the USPTO.
