Sleeping Dogs’ open-world to have “gameplay density,” instead of size
United Front has said not to expect Sleeping Dogs to be quite as large as previous titles in the True Crime series – the franchise it was originally developed for.

Sleeping Dogs Australian release confirmed
We’ve received a release schedule confirming that Sleeping Dogs will launch in Australia on August 16, for PC PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. While we hadn’t heard anything to suggest this wouldn’t be the case, the game’s violent trailers raised some concerns that it might not make it past the Classification Board’s content guidelines – but there it is, with an MA15+ sticker for “strong violence, crime themes, coarse language and sexual references”. The open-world Hong Kong action epic hits the US on August 14 and arrives in Europe on August 17.

Sleeping Dogs community video shows gameplay, folks enjoying it
Last week, Square invited community members from the Square Enix website, Eurogamer and IGN get some hands on time with United Front’s Sleeping Dogs. The video, posted below and hosted by Dan Maher – formerly of Inside Xbox, now Explosive Alan Productions – it shows folks playing the game, and there’s a chat with Square’s Alistair Cornish as well. Hit it up. Sleeping Dogs is out in August.

Sleeping Dogs gameplay video races through the streets of Hong Kong
Continuing our blitzkrieg of video releases on the site, we now present for your consideration a new video for Sleeping Dogs which highlights the game’s driving mechanics. Upon release, the game will contain 65 vehicles for the road and waterways of Hong Kong. Players can take part in illegal street races where “money, girls and status are the high-stakes rewards.” Game’s out later this year for PC, 360 and PS3.

Square Enix to launch retitled True Crime: Hong Kong game 2012
The European Square Enix blog has given a 2012 release window for the game previously known as Truce Crime: Hong Kong.
The publisher’s purchase of the United Front-developed game – but not the rights to its title and IP – from Activision was announced earlier this week, but no launch date was set.

ModNation Racers pre-orders bring on the Sack, Drake and Kratos

A new developer update for ModNation Racers over on the US PS Blog has revealed some of the nifty mods you get for Ratchet, Clank, Kratos, Nathan Drake, and Sackboy with his cardboard racer.
Sackboy will be part of a special pack released for the game with a PSN voucher for the cutie pie.
There’s also some pre-order goodies from retailers Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and GameCrazy where you can get one of the four bonus Mod and Kart packs. You can check those out here.
Each pack comes with an original Mod and Kart Body, plus you get special accessories that you can use when creating your own.
There’s also a trailer for it below the break.
ModNation Racers for PS3 will release on May 21 in the UK, and the US on May 25.

True Crime to benefit from GTA stayaway this year

True Crime’s reboot is looking “especially strong,” Activision Blizzard CEO Mike Griffith said in the company’s full-year earnings call last night, and will be rewarded by a lack of competition in the genre later this year.
