Sony’s released the launch trailer for Uncharted: Golden Abyss ahead of its release next week. The trailer’s story-focused and contains a fair bit of gameplay footage. It’s vintage Uncharted stuff with lots of puzzles, climbing and shooting involved. Sony’s lifted the embargo on the reviews of the game, along with the rest of the PS Vita’s launch line-up, as you can see here. Watch the trailer after the break.

“We never set out to make a three-part [Uncharted] series from the beginning. We have always sort of seen it as a stand-alone adventure, like you are gonna pick up any one of the games and play and out of order. It still makes sense. You can still understand the characters and the plot. Obviously, if you play the other ones, you get more out of it. I have always seen it as a single-part adventure story. We have always said that if we think that we can make something new and interesting, if the fans still want them, then we can make another one. But at this time, everyone is sort of on vacation. We’re trying to recover from the process of making it and I think we will come back together and maybe this month and next month make a decision about what we are going to do next. But we never said how many of these things there will be. There are plenty more stories in the universe. It is just a question of what’s the company interested in doing next. Naughty Dog has released a couple teaser shots of Flashback Map Pack #1 for Uncharted 3 multiplayer. According to a post over on the US PS Blog, two of the maps included in the pack will be The Cave and The Fort from Uncharted 2. As you can see by the screenshots posted below, the maps have been given a bit of spit-shine. Pretty swank looking they are too. Other maps will be included in the pack, but have yet to be announced, so keep an eye out for more information soon, along with a release date.

Naughty Dog has responded to complaints from Uncharted 3 players who feel gunplay in the game is restricted.

Uncharted 3 designer Richard Lemarchand has said the PS3 series is as good as it is because the heads of Naughty Dog, Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, encourage employees to set aside self-directed time each week to work on whatever they wish.
