Ubidays 2008: Avatar for “middle of next year”
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot just confirmed that James Cameron’s 3D game, Avatar, will be releasing in the “middle of next year.”
Guillemot said that he’d seen the game running and it, and the technology it employs, are “wonderful”.
The publisher boss was speaking at the now-ended Ubidays 2008 press conference in Paris.

Ubidays 2008: Beyond Good & Evil 2 shown in trailer form

Ubisoft just showed Beyond Good & Evil 2 at the Ubidays press conference. CEO Yves Guillemot said it was the “future of games”.
We saw the main character, Jade, sitting on a car in the desert and the pig chap sleeping in the sun under a paper.
And that was that.
No detail was given on release date or platform.

Ubidays 2008: Shaun White Snowboarding for Wii, uses Balance Board
Ubisoft, speaking at the ongoing Ubidays 2008 press conference, have just confirmed that Shaun White Snowboarding for Wii.
The publisher also said that the game will be playable on the Wii Balance Board.
Shaun White Snowboarding will ship for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii later this year.

Ubidays 2008: Endwar will have “the most epic battles ever seen in videogames”
Speaking at the Ubidays 2008 press conference in Paris, producer Julian Gerighty just said that the target for Tom Clancy’s Endwar’s development is simply “delivering the most epic battles ever seen in videogames.”
Michael de Plater creative director of Endwar played the game for the crowd, fighting a battle in Paris in which the goal was to simply destroy all enemies. He used airstikes, tanks, helicopters and ground troops to lose horribly. Good stuff.
Gerighty said that the strategy title had so far taken three years and 200 developers working at Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio top make the team’s vision a reality.
The game hits this year for 360 and PS3. The Ubidays conference is ongoing.

Ubidays 2008: Endwar players can be supported by units from other Clancy games
Ubisoft just confirmed that players in Endwar will be able to call on support from players in other Clancy games.
Unless we’ve got this very wrong, the company just said that Ghost Recon and HAWX units will be able to supply support in the strategy title.
“This is just the beginning of the creation of a Tom Clancy universe,” said one of the game’s developers.
The publisher also confirmed that Endwar will have a persistent online game.

Ubidays 2008: Over 50 million Clancy games sold worldwide
Ubisoft just said that the publisher has sold more than 50 million Tom Clancy titles in the past 10 years.
The info came in a trailer celebrating a decade of the franchise at Ubisoft in the Ubidays 2008 press conference in Paris.

Ubidays 2008: Elika replaces sands of time as gameplay innovation in new Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia producer Ben Mates has just confirmed that there won’t be any time-manipulation mechanic in the new iteration of the franchise, and that the great innovation will be replaced with new character Elika.
Mates said that Elika will be constantly with the Prince throughout the game and will assist him with every aspect of play.
“When you’re fighting you do better because Elika helps you,” said Mates. “Every single element of this amazing action heroes abilities are taken to the next level by [this character].”
Mates showed the two characters fighting a boss character together, with the duo performing action moves and Elika getting busy with some magic.
Mates also confirmed that the game’s hero doesn’t start as a prince, and that there is no link chronologically between the new game and the previous trilogy.
“He starts as a wanderer, an adventurer,” said Mates, saying that this was important as it defined the character’s personality.

Ubidays 2008: Hang glider confirmed for Far Cry 2
Clint Hocking, creative director Far Cry 2, has just demoed a hang glider in Far Cry 2 for the first time.
The contraption was in the first game, and Hocking said it was important for it to make it into the sequel.

Ubidays 2008: “Blasting demons with plasma rifles is over,” says Far Cry 2 boss
Clint Hocking, creative director Far Cry 2, has claimed that Far Cry 2 will lead the shooter genre out of the dark ages and into the light.
“The time for running through dark corridors and blasting demons with plasma rifles is kind of coming to an end,” he said, speaking at the Ubidays press conference in Paris.
Hocking said that his game is merely a backdrop to relationships between characters in the title.
“Bad action movies are about shooting people,” he said. “The best action movies are about people.”

Ubidays 2008: First Shaun White Snowboarding video released
And we’re off! Sort of. Ubisoft’s released the first video of the newly-announced Shaun White Snowboarding, promising a winter release. There’s not much to see in the video apart from some CG of people sliding down a mountain, but it’ll have to do for now.
Remember that the Ubidays press conference is going to be broadcast live from Paris from 6pm onwards. Shaun’s going to play a role, from the look of it. After the link.

Ubisoft confirms Shaun White Snowboarding for PC, PS3 and 360
According to this IGN story, Ubisoft has confirmed that Shaun White snowboarding will release for PC, PS3 and 360 at the end of this year.
Apparently the game includes seamless multiplayer and single-player aspects, as well as 15 riders with which to take you “shit” to the mountain.
“Shaun White Snowboarding will turn all of the traditional ideas and experiences of past action sports titles upside down,” said Ubi marketing bod Tony Key. “The combination of Ubisoft’s innovation approach and the influence of Shaun’s lifestyle and perspective make this gaming experience like no other.”
There’s a first look here. Expect to see more of it in the live Ubidays 2008 broadcast from Paris this evening, from 6pm onwards.

Exclusive: Ubidays 2008 will be first publisher event broadcast inside Home
Sony’s sent out a note to Home beta testers telling them that Ubidays 2008 will be the first publisher event to be broadcast in the new Media & Events space within the service.

The Home team and Ubisoft would like to invite you to the first ever Publisher Event in Home. Its a pretty exclusive event too as we’re still in closed beta so please try and make time to be a part of a real first.
We’ll be in Home in the new Media & Events space on the evening of Wednesday the 28th of May between 7pm BST and 8pm BST time and Ubisoft will be showcasing their new titles for you all.

New Far Cry 2 footage shows… shooting
There’s a 13-minute shaky-cam video of Far Cry 2 gameplay on Game Invasion, and very nice it looks too. We like the bit where the protagonist pulls a bullet out of his palm with a pair of pliers. New Prince of Persia images released, video interview
Gamespot’s posted new shots of Prince of Persia. The gallery’s a mixture of old and new stuff, the fresh images being mainly art from the look of it. The site’s also posted a video interview with JC Guvot, the game’s creative director, which should stave off the pangs until the game’s properly revealed at Ubidays on Wednesday. Take a look.

Live Far Cry 2 performance confirmed for Ubidays
Ubisoft’s confirmed that Far Cry 2 will be shown live on the Ubidays press conference webcast on May 28 at 6pm BST.
The confirmation came by way of Ubisoft’s marketing for the event, as you can see at the top of the site. No further details have been released as yet.
A full list of games to be shown at the conference has been released to attending journalists already, but hasn’t been published as yet.
The Ubidays conference will be shown live on Uplay.com from the Louvre in Paris.















Twisted Metal launches in US, reviews rounded-up
