End of Nations closed beta weekend is underway
The closed beta weekend for Trion Worlds’ strategy MMO End of Nations is live. If you have not checked your inbox lately, you may wish to do so as there may be an invite languishing alongside your Kitten Weekly newsletter or daily shots of Bay City Badonkadonks. Three faction PvP coming to RIFT, testing to occur May 17
Trion has announced three faction PvP and open world conquest for RIFT. The area of Stillmoor is being revamped with “cross-shard, open-world PvP control points and sourcestone powered fortifications,” according to TenTonHammer, and in order for your faction to win, players will need to claim 40% of the control points or rack up 5,000 kills. Players will also need to align themselves with one of three factions and their totems: Dominion – The Ram, Oathsworn – The Lion, or Nightfall – The Raven. A PvP test for the new content will occur on RIFT’s pulic test server on Thursday, May 17 starting at 4.00pm PDT. Head on through the links to learn more.

Trion Worlds head up for entrepreneur prize
Trion Worlds boss Lars Buttler has been named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 program in Northern California. The award is given to entrepreneurs who promote innovation and financial performance. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Dell’s Michael Dell, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, and Best Buy’s Richard Schulze are previous honorees. Winner’s will be announced during an event at the Fairmont San Francisco on June 2. GI has more on this.

Trion launches Streaming Client for RIFT, patches game as you play
Trion Worlds has released its Streaming Client for RIFT which will allow players to launch the game from the patcher without having to wait for the full data download to complete. This will allow players to jump into the fray within minutes, even if the patch is large. The game’s patcher will continue download the necessary updates in the background while you play. The new client works “best on a 5MBps or better connection,” and so those who have a slower connection should let the patch complete before attempting to launch the client. An in-game download indicator will show the current status of your download, and will disappear when the client is fully updated. Get more information through the RIFT forums.

RIFT sets Guinness World Record for most in-game marriages in 24 Hours
Trion Worlds has announced its MMO RIFT has succeeded in setting the world record for the most in-game marriages in a 24-hour period. Officially recorded for the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, 21,879 marriages were confirmed between 9.00am PST, February 14 and 9.00am PST, February 15. The record will be included in the 2013 edition of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition. In addition to setting a record, all players who got hitched in the game, a feature launched with the recent content expansion Carnival of the Ascended, received the unique in-game title “The Avowed.” Screenshots featuring various nuptials are posted below along with a video.

Trion to release RIFT in China
Trion Worlds and Chinese Internet firm Shanda Games have entered into an agreement which will see the release of RIFT in China. Shanda will hold the exclusive license for RIFT localized in Mandarin, a deal which Trion CEO Lars Buttler called “a huge step for Western premium games in China.” Trion’s expansion to Asia follows the firm’s recent $85 million round of equity financing, which will also help the firm along as it develops its consumer platform and full-scale publishing and development platform Red Door, later this year. The release of RIFT in Mainland China will be announced at a later date.

Trion Worlds’ David Reid joins CCP as chief marketing officer
Trion Worlds SVP of publishing, David Reid, has left the firm to take a position with EVE Online developer CCP as the firm’s chief marketing officer. According to Reid, the opportunity to join the firm was “one of those opportunities that only comes your way once in a lifetime.” Before joining Trion, Reid was president of publishing at NCsoft West. RIFT database hacked: “No evidence that full credit card information was compromised”
Trion Worlds announced today that its RIFT account database has been hacked, and private information such as: user names, passwords, birth dates, billing and email addresses, along with the first and last four digits of stored credit card information could have been compromised. However, the firm states that at this time, there is “no evidence” that such personal information has been accessed, and it has “no reason to believe, that full credit card information was accessed or compromised in any way.”
