The Last Guardian’s TGS screens released
SCEE just put out the Last Guardian TGS shots, and they’re bloody lovely. Get them after the break.
A new trailer came out of the Japanese show today, in addition.
No date. An insider kindly informed us this morning, however, that it’s “not long now”.

Last Guardian boss to Japanese studios – Go west or go bust
Yasuhide Kobayashi, VP of Sony’s Japan Studio and head of Last Guardian’s development, told DICE Summit Asia today that Japanese games-makers must now appeal to western tastes or die.
“There are so many issues we have to solve, and the biggest challenge is that the market in Japan is shrinking – they key is gaining success in the US and Europe,” he said.
“At the time of the original PlayStation the Japanese market was one third of the global market, and production costs weren’t that high – so we were able to generate profit from that market alone.
“But now we’re in the era of the PlayStation 3, and the Japanese market is only one fifth of the global market – when it comes to production costs, those are swelling, so it means that unless we gain success in the overseas market our studio will go bankrupt. It’s a crisis we recognise,” he added.
Kobayashi admitted that Last Guardian was named as such to appeal to US and European gamers.
Lots more on GI.

Waters: “Impossible” for Last Guardian to live up to “BBC game” hype

BBC tech journalist Darren Waters admitted to VG247 this morning that his secret “BBC game” is The Last Guardian, previously known as Project TRICO, saying it was now “impossible” for the title to satisfy expectations.
“I’ve carried this secret for so long that it is an incredible relief to finally be able to talk about it openly,” he said.
“Obviously, the length of time that has passed between my first glimpse of the game and its unveiling at E3 means that it is impossible for the Last Guardian to live up to the hype built around this so-called ‘secret BBC game’.
“As a passionate gamer I’m really excited to see what the final playable game will be like. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are such great titles, and the studio behind them so talented, that while there is a lot to live up to there is plenty of reason for optimism.”
The Ueda game, aired publicly for the first time in the Sony E3 press conference last night, is the PS3 title Waters described in February 2008 as having the potential to deliver a “step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion.”
The BBC man went on to denounce the fanboyism generated by his original remarks.
“I hate the way this game has been used as yet another stick for fan boys to hit each around the head,” he added.
“The reality is that all three of the big platforms are producing the kinds of games I could never have imagined years ago when I first fired up my Dragon 32 computer and played Chuckie Egg.”
And there you have it. Watch the game’s beautiful announce trailer here, and get all the news from yesterday’s PS3 conference here.
Happy now?

TRICO’s new game is Last Guardian

Ueda’s new game is called Last Guardian, not TRICO.
The demo shown in today’s Sony E3 press conference saw a feather falling from the sky, the wind blowing and a bird chirping on the stone before Mr Griffin popped in.
It was largely the same Trico trailer that was leaked previously, but there was a new bit chunked on the end. We’re assured a lot of new atr work has been done over old movie.
It showed a boy on Griffin’s head leaping from the ledge.
The boy is then picked up by guardians in full armor, then lying under the protective wing of the Griffin.
No date.

Leaked Trico footage is real, talk casts doubt on E3 reveal

VG247 has it on cast iron authority that the Trico footage leaked overnight is real.
Strict anonymity surrounds the information.
The footage, as has now been widely speculated, is over a year old.
We’ve also been told this morning that the game may not sufficiently advanced enough for an E3 reveal.
Great fear surrounds this, Ringo. We’re waiting on comment from Sony.

Rumour: First Trico video leaked [Update]

Update: It is real.
After the break. Is it real? Call us bluff old traditionalists, but we’re going to go for “yes”.
We’re trying to keep our pants on. It’s pretty hard, to be honest. Take a look.
Thanks, PSL.
