Fox and Microsoft have signed a coexistence agreement regarding their rival claims to the Killer Instinct trademark. Under the terms of the agreement, as uploaded by NeoGAF users, Fox promises not to raise objections to Microsoft’s trademarking of or use of the phrase. Presumably this means the TV show that started the drama won’t be renewed any time soon – but oh, harro, what’s this jaw-dropping Kinect title in the works at Rare?

A western release of Level-5 and Brownie Brown’s unusual sim Fantasy Life seems more and more likely. In addition to a European trademark filed last month, Siliconera reports the developer has moved to secure a US one. Unfortunately, there’ve been no rumblings from any of the usual publishers, but perhaps a 3DS eShop release is possible. Fantasy Life released in Japan in December and sold out almost immediately; Level-5 is already planning sequels.

February’s Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademark isn’t for a new game of any kind, Eidos Montreal has confirmed on the Deus Ex Facebook page. “The Human Defiance name was registered on the off-chance it we might need it, but it was decided later that it wouldn’t be used,” the post noted. The developer posted an April Fools Day trailer for a retro-style game of the same name, which you can check out through the break.

Square Enix Europe has filed a US trademark application for something called Lara Croft: Reflections, the sleuths at Siliconera report. We have absolutely no idea what it might be – although we know it’s not single-player DLC for Tomb Raider – but the title may suggest some sort of smaller spin-off project, like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Nintendo of America has once more applied to extend its trademark for Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, the 2002 cult-favourite Silicon Knights Gamecube title. This is the fifth extension, and every time the Big N does this everyone starts speculating wildly that a sequel or re-release is in the works – but then absolutely nothing happens. Silicon Knights was rumoured to be working on some sort of followup before a legal battle with Epic grounded the developer.

Level-5 has filed US trademarks for what sounds suspiciously like two of Guild02‘s games.

Insomniac Games has filed a trademark for a project called Sunset Overdrive. Other than the usual “computer game software” classification lingo, along with a note that it’s an “on-line computer game,” there’s not much else to go on. A NeoGAF user also found a domain registration for the project, which was registered by the firm’s brand director Ryan Schneider. We’ll send a mail and see if we can get anything else on this, but in the meantime, the developer’s shooter FUSE is due during Q2 2013. Thanks, Dark Zero.

Microsoft has renewed its trademark for Project Gotham Racing, according to Trademarkia. The trademark covers “computer programs, namely, game software for use on computers and video game players” and was first registered in 2001 ahead of the first entry in the series, an Xbox launch title. The renewal is just good business practice but has reignited excitement over rumours that Lucid Games is developing a new Project Gotham game for the next Xbox console.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s London office, which produced PlayStation Home, has filed a trademark application for something called BigFest.

Microsoft has filed a trademark application with the USPTO for something called Gunpowder. Other than the description “entertainment services, namely, providing online video games,” there is nothing else regarding the project available to deduce what it could entail. It was filed on January 15. Via Gamespot.

Bethesda has registered a trademark with the USPTO for “an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.” Fallout anyone? Note the word in the link there. The registration comes just a week after ThreeDog voice actor Erik Todd Dellums tweeted there may be more “of the Dog coming,” tweeting later he was “given permission to release that tease, so fingers crossed.” Speculation started running all over the place that a movie adaption was set for an announcement, or that Fallout 4 is in the works. Square Enix has filed a trademark application, a domain registration, and a a European Community Trademark for All the Bravest. We’re unsure what the firm has in the works, but the trademark a myriad of items from arcade to software, even strategy guide and music. The domains and trademarks were registered on November 29. Level-5 has made a couple of US trademarks for Crimson Shroud and Liberation Maiden, two of the four titles included in its 3DS compilation release Guild01. We’ve had no official word that the collection might make it outside of Japan, but with games from Grasshopper Maunfacture’s Goichi Suda, Seaman creator Yoot Saito, and Vagrant Story designer Yasumi Matsuno we can only say “yes pwease”. Guild01 sold well enough in Japan to spawn a sequel, too.

A recent update on Trademarkia says that Team Ico’s long-delayed adventure title The Last Guardian has had the status of its trademark changed to “Abandoned – No Statement Of Use Filed.”

EA has made a mysterious pair of new trademark filings in the usual gaming categories, for something called JetSet Detectives and something else called JetSet Secrets. (The trademarks differ from Sega’s Jet Set radio, which separates the two words with a space, so don’t get any wild ideas.) As spotted by Fusible, the publisher also took out an enormous pile of domain registrations for both titles. We’ll query it, but don’t expect much of a response, and remember that EA is making a strong push for the social market with its PlayFish and Popcap teams.
