Analyst: games costing $100 million need 5-10 million sales to succeed
Square-Enix posted a grim financial revision yesterday, which caused president Yoichi Wada to stand down. The company then called Tomb Raider a failure, despite selling 3.4 million units in just four weeks. Numbers like these are often not enough to cover triple-a development costs, one analyst has said.

Square financials: Tomb Raider, Hitman & Sleeping Dogs fail to hit sales targets
Tomb Raider has sold 3.4 million units in the last four weeks, which is still a failure in the eyes of Square-Enix’s financial report. The company published a grim revision of its expected financials this morning, citing the poor performance of several titles as a key contributor.

BioShock: Infinite, Tomb Raider Geforce drivers released
Nvidia has released a new set of drivers for its GeForce range of GPUs in celebration of the release of BioShock: Infinite today – along with the recent Tomb Raider. Lara Croft: Reflections trademark filed by Square Enix
Square Enix Europe has filed a US trademark application for something called Lara Croft: Reflections, the sleuths at Siliconera report. We have absolutely no idea what it might be – although we know it’s not single-player DLC for Tomb Raider – but the title may suggest some sort of smaller spin-off project, like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Tomb Raider PC updated with more TressFX, multiplayer fixes
The PC version of Tomb Raider has been patched with a wide variety of bug fixes including improved multiplayer connectivity; better voice chat; TressFX improvements; and better performance when switching view modes or using multiple displays. It’s at least the second time the Crystal Dynamics effort has been patched, and Nvidia released new beta drivers specifically in support of the game a few days ago, so hopefully any problems have now been quashed. Tomb Raider players have robbed 3,570,956 tombs – more stats released
Square has released some interesting Tomb Raider stats: 5,294,879 deer and 1,417,750 crabs have been hunted; Lara has had 13,742,891 “close calls” and 11,067,764 enemies have been dodged. 147,675,058 enemies have been killed with the bow and 20,601,083 of those were with with fire arrows and folks have looted and salvaged 356,988,302 arrows from these fallen enemies. On top of this, players have robbed 3,570,956 tombs, which is what Tomb Raider is really all about isn’t it? That sweet, sweet loot! Tomb Raider is out now on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Tomb Raider PC patch addresses Nvidia hardware issues, boat bug
The PC version of Tomb Raider has been patched with a number of important updates. Most importantly, Crystal Dynamics has rolled out a handful of fixes for Nvidia and Intel hardware and fixed a bug in a later missions which prevented progress for some players. Less vital but still much appreciated, it’s also added X-axis inversion and separate invert settings for control pads versus mouse and keyboard set ups, and rectified issues with fullscreen. Interestingly, Crystal Dynamics has made a “beta” version of the un-patched game available to those who’d prefer to stick to the old version; visit the patch notes for details on how to access it.

Tomb Raider tots up 1 million players in 48 hours
According to a tweet from Tomb Raider global brand manager Karl Stewart, Lara Croft’s latest adventure has reached 1 million players in 48 hours. It’s not clear whether Stewart is referring to sales or just players who have fired the game up while online, allowing Crystal Dynamics to log them, but the developer also said he’d heard some stores are running low on stock. Tomb Raider is available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light series won’t return, taking ‘new Lara’ forward is the focus for next-gen
Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is looking forward, not backwards when deciding what to do with Lara going in to the next generation. This means that the off-shoot series that began with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light won’t be making a comeback for one.
