First Tomb Raider: Underworld gameplay footage released

tombraiderunderworld9.jpg

After the break. It genuinely does look amazing. Underworld’s going to be on show in Germany next week, so we’ll have a look if we’re passing. Watch the movie. Sorry, this went up yesterday, but we’d been broken by the NPD. For shame.

Thanks, Mig!

New Tomb Raider Underworld pics look green

tombraideruderworlda4.jpg

Gamersyde has them. See Lara in the jungle. See Lara balance on rather conveniently placed wooden poles that allow you to progress to the next part of the level. See Tomb Raider looking like Tomb Raider.

Still, it’s got a Tiger in it. So that’s nice.

Brooke: Christmas will show what Lara’s capable of

tombraideruderworlda3.jpg

Eidos UK marketing boss John Brooke’s told MCV that Tomb Raider: Underworld will be the Christmas smash gaming’s tit-happy heroine’s been gagging for.

“It is a major release for Eidos and it is genuinely exciting to see Lara back in time for Christmas, so we can see exactly what she’s capable of,” he said.

Brooke added: “Since moving to a studio-led business model this is the first game to really benefit from our new business ethos and everyone here is committed to making it a huge success.

“With Tomb Raider: Underworld we feel we are really nailing it; our community is buzzing, our first game assets are really hot, the game code has wowed retailers and press alike and our numbers are supported by years of heritage boosted by our first synchronised all formats ship at Christmas.”

GO LARA. More through the link.

Take a look. Thanks, DrHaggard.

First Tomb Raider: Underworld footage released

tombraiderunderworld5.jpg

After the break. There’s three minutes of gameplay there, showing the underwater section with shark combat, and the big octopus thing in his underground cavern. It’s from YouTube, so the quality’s a bit shonky, but you can see what’s going on. Look right now.

There are some new screens on Shacknews, as well.

IGN goes hands-on with Tomb Raider: Underworld

tombraiderunderworld7.jpg

Here. It’s a playtest of the underwater section seen in recent screenshots, and some cavern bits later on with the big octopus, the Kraken. This sums it up:

While the code was still early, it was quite interesting to see how the developers have been crafting much of the game to play with cinematic camera angles and ambient sound effects to bring players into the action. In fact, the second half of the demo was intentionally stripped of the game’s soundtrack, because the developers wanted to have only the sound of Lara, the Kraken and the environment to heighten the tension that was felt from each puzzle. While some visual details still need to be implemented (for example, the ping map was a basic 3D model that hadn’t been fully realized), the game action looks like it will be non-stop when the title is released later this year.

Read it.

New Tomb Raider: Underworld shots and art pop up

tombraiderunderworld6.jpg

Update: There’s a load more on NeoGAF.

Funny the things that happen on a sunny Saturday. GamersHell’s carrying new screens and art from Tomb Raider: Underworld, and while they’re pretty they’re a little small. Look like scans, but they’ve got panthers in them, so that’s fine. Take a look.

First Tomb Raider: Underworld preview goes live

The first preview of Tomb Raider: Underworld has been published and 1UP‘s Thierry Nguyen was the man chosen to play it.

He takes a brief look at the opening level of the game and sums up his feelings thus:

Everything I’ve written about so far — the underwater beginning, the new toys, the huge kraken, the larger playspace, the new adrenaline moments, and so on — take place in the first level. I’m hoping that Crystal Dynamics maintains the pace throughout the rest of the game.

Colour us interested. Loads more through the 1UP link.

Tomb Raider portal launched, November release confirmed

tombraideruderworlda2.jpg

Eidos has launched a portal for all things Tomb Raider: Underworld, released new shots and confirmed a November release date.

The screens show Lara in her swimsuit, which is probably enough to keep more than a few people wanking. Take a look.

Tomb Raider Underworld confirmed for E3

tombraiderunderworld5.jpg

Eidos confirmed four more games for E3 overnight, including the apparently amazing Tomb Raider Underworld. Keep up with all the games you can expect to see at the show on the IGN E3 List. It really is the easiest way.

Other Eidos titles confirmed were:

  • Battlestations: Pacific (PC, 360)
  • Just Cause 2 (PC, PS3, X360)
  • Monster Lab (Wii)
  • Tomb Raider Underworld (PC, PS3, X360)

New Tomb Raider Underworld shot surfaces

tombraiderunderworld4.jpg

Wowsers. Please be good. A new shots of Tomb Raider Underworld’s made it webward, this time a previously unseen environment screen. There’s still no release date on this aside from “2008″, but if there’s new media out there you can expect another reveal soon. Eidos told us they were working on a new round of exposure a couple of months ago, so don’t be too shocked if you start seeing covers in the coming month.

After the link.

Gameplay first, not Lara: Tomb Raider producer

lara2.jpg

Eidos is focussing on Tomb Raider’s gameplay first and foremost, and not gaming’s first lady, Tomb Raider Underworld senior producer Sarah Van Rompaey said in this interview.

“We have to keep gameplay fresh as opposed to Lara,” she said. “Being able to utilise the power of next gen hardware means that we can do a lot more than previously possible, this extends to what you as a player are able to do with Lara in terms of movement and your interactivity with the environment. The environments can also be built in a much grander scale.”

But Lara, obviously, hasn’t gone without a make-over since Legend.

“Lara also looks different,” Van Rompaey added. “The goal was to make Lara feel three dimensional in the way that she looks, behaves and also how she looks within the world she’s operating in. She’s got new facial expressions, cloth movement, hair movement and superfine detail on clothing, expressions. Her fluid movement set has also been expanded significantly.”

Shots of Underworld released today are absolutely gobsmacking. Journalists who saw the game in London last week were seriously knocked out by it, so keep a very close eye on this.

Hi-res Tomb Raider Underworld shots

lara.jpg

As we said yesterday, this is looking tres awesome. CVG’s got a set of HD screens of Tomb Raider Underworld from Eidos, showing off acrobatics, levels, hanging off cliffs and loads more. There are good close-ups of the new Lara model and even some concept art. Take a look.

Update: CVG now appears to have pulled the shots and replaced them with a preview. Word on the street is there was a 5pm embargo on both the text and the shots, although the NDA covering all this stuff just says “February 1″. Expect more Eidos-related jiggery pokery throughout the day.

Update 2: EG’s gone live with its written TRU content. Big preview from Ellie there, who managed to mention the word “tits” four times.
