Ubisoft has launched a Tom Clancy-flavoured sale on Xbox Live, covering such franchises as Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. I’m not sure exactly what Tom tastes like, for the record.

Famitsu thinks Killzone 2′s worth 32/40, according to the game’s review in the magazine’s latest issue. The Guerrilla shooter was given 8/8/8/8 by the mag’s panel.
Tom Clancy’s HAWX got exactly the same score, meaning that either Killzone 2 is as good as HAWX, or HAWX is as good as Killzone 2.
The obvious question: is either as good as Halo?

Microsoft is to include the NXE update in all new game discs.
The first titles to get this mandatory update will be HAWX and MLB: 2K9.
You won’t be able to play them unless you accept the dashboard update that pops up when you insert the disc.
There’s no escape. Welcome to Avatars, unconnected people.

You can watch the first ten minutes of play from the retail version of Tom Clancy’s HAWX after the break.
The Ubi flight war shooter releases this Friday for PC, PS3 and 360. The movie’s shot from the 360 version.
It’s all about supporting the Ghosts and press A a lot, from our brief experience of it. You get XP from killing things, as well.
Dandy. Look and see.

Following the announcement of a 360 HAWX demo for February 11 by Microsoft last night, Ubi’s confirmed a PS3 version will hit a day later.
The air combat game’s taster does sound very cool, providing co-op for four players and unlockable planes.
It’s out on March 6 for consoles and March 13 for PC. Full details after the link.

The 360 demo of Tom Clancy’s HAWX will release on February 11, as confirmed here.
Sounds pretty swish, to be fair:
The demo is c o-op enabled for up to four players—jump in or jump outwith ease. Gain experience points to unlock three real, licensed planes in the demo: a F-16A Fighting Falcon, a SU-35 Super Flanker, and an AV-8B Harrier II.
It’s free. Do yourself a favour.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. lead designer Thomas Simon told MTV that although the team respects Namco’s Ace Combat, they feel the gameplay is too closed and promise the H.A.W.X. will rectify that.
“What ‘Ace Combat’ did to the air combat genre is really great,” Simon said. “They [Namco Bandai] really set the basics of that [genre].
“But we felt, in general, it was a bit closed…the frame was too tight and people are getting used to that; we wanted to refresh it a bit, so we opened it via new gameplay features.”
In order to do that, Simon reckons you need to feel part of the world you’re flying around in:
“We wanted to put it in the real world, so you’re not fighting in places that have no emotion,” he explained. “If I’m fighting above Washington, it means something more to me. That was a real choice.”
Ubisoft announced today that Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. is to be released for PC, 360 and PS3 in March.

Bit of quick confusion here. Ubisoft sent out a release schedule earlier this afternoon listing combat flight sim Tom Clancy’s HAWX as a Q1 release. Eurogamer reported this as a slip – the date was listed in red on the schedule, meaning it had been amended – posting a story saying the game wouldn’t be seen before April next year, or the beginning of Ubi’s fiscal first quarter.
Ubi got it wrong, basically. A rep just did a mass mail to apologise for the “a lot of confusion in regards of the release date of HAWX.
“This is to confirm that the game is planned for released on calendar Q1.”
Step down to DEFCON 3, open up the mountain, etc.

According to this CVG piece, Tom Clancy’s HAWX has been delayed from the end of 2008 until next year.
It’s not the only Ubi game to take a tumble, apparently. The site’s also reporting that Gearbox’s Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway has been pushed back to September 26 from an anticipated August release.
No reason has been given for the delay of either game.

On Shacknews. There’s a ton of new gameplay footage of the Clancy flight-shooter in there, plus developer commentary and a look at Ubisoft’s Romanian studio. More from E3, probably.
