Valve’s Skyrim mod adds a bit of Portal 2
One of the first mods to roll off the assembly line enabled by the recently-released Skyrim Creation Kit is a neat little effort by Valve, celebrating the modding community’s intended close relationship with Steam Workshop. The Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1 adds the Space-loving Portal 2 core as a companion, and apparently also Nolan North.

Back-up: Steam opens beta testing on Skyrim 1.4 patch
Brave Dragonborn can set out on the most daring adventure of their lifetimes, by beta testing the latest patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Steam. As the Bethesda blog notes, it’s best to back up your saves before you give it a go, because in a game this size, something is almost certainly going to go horribly, horribly wrong. Assuming you’re not too attached to the last hundred hours you spent on the game, you can opt into the beta in the Account section of your Steam settings. You can check the preliminary patch notes here.
Thanks, GameInformer.

Quick Quotes – Bethesda may retain Skyrim’s bucket theft technique
“I think our favorite [user made video] really is putting the buckets on the heads. It was like day two, and we went, what? Do we fix that? Our lead programmer is pissed and wants to fix it, and I said I’m not sure we should. That’s one of those where maybe we leave it in.”

Skyrim: Nine things you didn’t know you could do videoed, detailed
Somehow we missed this little nugget posted over on OPM the other day, but we’re making up for it by posting it for you today. The site lists nine various things in Skyrim you may or may not have known you could pull off in the game. There’s a couple on there we’ve yet to try ourselves, but then again, we aren’t too far into the game because we just can’t stop exploring. Through the link, you will find videos showing you how to: use your shield as a weapon, get a follower that never dies, and how to find this rather awesome Daedric staff that produces random effects each time it’s used. We won’t give the rest away. You’ll need to head on through the link to see the list for yourself. [pic]

Bethesda offers Skyrim PS3 save issue workarounds
Bethesda has suggested a number of workaround tips and tricks for PlayStation 3 owners suffering memory-related issues in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Suggestions include freeing up 2GB of memory on your consoles’ hard drive; disabling auto-save; and waiting or resting for up to 30 days to help clear the effects of your actions on the game world. A few advanced options using the console’s safe mode are suggested too, but don’t come highly recommended.
The publisher has indicated the PS3 issues are a priority and may be part of the next patch.
