Total War: Rome 2 and Company of Heroes 2 publisher Sega has confirmed that both of its strategy titles will be playable at his year’s Rezzed expo, taking place June 22-23 at The NEC, Birmingham.

SEGA has announced that Total War: Rome 2 is the fastest pre-ordered Total War game to date, with over six times the number of pre-orders its first official week compared to Shogun 2. The Collector’s Edition has also pre-ordered well, with over half the available copies already sold out in the US. The firm also said Total War sales hit 2 million last year “without a major release,” to support the series. Those who pre-order the strategy title get the first DLC, The Greek States Culture Pack, free on the day of release. Rome 2 is out September 3.

Sega’s sent over a link to a Panorama page on the Total War wiki, on which it posts staggeringly enormous screenshots. If you’d like to look at a landscape lovingly rendered in-engine and then pieced together into a 30000 x 9785 pixel image, that is a thing you can do. Total War: Rome 2 comes out on PC later this year and none of you have monitors big enough for anything approaching this level of image quality.

The latest faction for Total War: Rome 2 has been revealed the “independent, powerful” Egypt. These successors to Alexander The Great’s legacy and the rulers of Ptolemaic Egypt bring “Hellenistic fighting prowess to north Africa, with serried ranks of fearsome pikemen, devastating scythed war-chariots and terrifying war-elephants.” Yikes. Despite their prowess in batt;e, though, they are also well-versed in statecraft and diplomacy, so know thine enemy etc. You can find out more on the Egyptian faction through the game’s wiki. Rome 2 is expected sometime in 2013 for PC.

Total War: Rome 2 includes one very special character – a soldier modelled on a 24 year-old fan who recently passed away due to liver cancer. Prior to his passing, The Creative Assembly allowed the passionate strategy fan to tour the studio, play an alpha build, and pose for his digital recreation. Eurogamer has a touching article on how The Creative Assembly rallied round the young man and was quite cut by his death. Total War: Rome 2 arrives on PC sometime this year.

Total War Shogun 2: Gold Edition, which is comprised of the core game along with the expansions Rise of The Samurai and Fall of The Samurai, is now available in North American retail stores. The European and Australian version will release at retail on March 8. You’ll find a couple of celebratory new screens through the break.

The Creative Assembly has always been a supporter of PC gaming, and is one of the first to defend the system when claims that it is “dying” come up. Now that PS4 has been revealed, Dom Starr, the campaign designer of Total War: Rome 2, says the console being “an adapted PC” is further proof that PC gaming is not even close to being in its death throws.

The Creative Assembly’s licensed Alien tie-in has been spotted by eagle-eyed gamers. Images of the game have appeared on the studio’s Twitter feed, giving a fleeting glimpse of the yet-to-be-announced project.

SEGA has sent over a video featuring the Battle of Teutoburg forest in Total War: Rome 2 The video also demonstrates the game’s new true line-of-sight system, deployable battlefield tech, and ambush scenarios. The lasted faction reveal for Total War: Rome 2 is the Iceni. These fellas are a “violent tribe from the south of Britain,” sporting body-paint and they are “renowned for their use of highly maneuverable chariots in battle.” A screenshot of the faction is below, and more information on the faction can be found through the Total War: Rome 2 wiki. Only four more factions to be revealed, again, if the wiki is any indication. The game is expected sometime in 2013 for PC.
