Fils-Aime: Near-term Wii opportunity is 360- and PS3-owning h8torZ

halo3recon

The immediate growth opportunity for Wii exists in capturing the core gamer, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has told CNET.

“The near-term opportunity is the consumer who owns an PS3 or an Xbox 360 and has been bad-mouthing Wii to their friends,” he said, talking at E3.

“We can reach that consumer with games like The Conduit or Tiger Woods with Wii Motion Plus.”

Fils-Aime said that players will go onto buy other first-party Nintendo games once they’d made the plunge.

“We think we win over the Halo audience with something like The Conduit, a multi-player, online, shooting experience, or Dead Space Extraction,” he added.

“And you know what? Once those people buy into Wii, they’ll go buy Mario Kart or Wii Fit Plus.”

Don’t worry, though. There’s plenty in that interview about going after non-gaming consumers. Read for the Lord.

High Voltage to show two Wii exclusives at E3

highvoltage

Eric Nofsinger has stated that High Voltage will be showing crowds at E3 this year two new Wii exclusives.

Both, he said, are first-person shooters capable of hosting five dozen onscreen foes at minimum.

Speaking with Nintendo Master, Nofsinger told the French site that the firm wants to “do some things that are very, very rare, even on the 360 or PS3.”

“Our goal with The Conduit was to make a game that was the most graphically impressive for the Wii,” he said. Our goal with these upcoming games is to do some things that are very, very rare, even on the 360 or PS3. Some of the things we’re doing with sheer number of enemies onscreen and things like that are very impressive.

“We’ve got a demo that we’ll be showing, where the average number of enemies on the screen at a given time is 65. And it goes up. There’s areas where you go onto a vista and there’s an incredible number of enemies.”

Come on E3, hurry up already.

Originally scheduled for a June 9 release, the “summer” push back is technically accurate considering tht the first day of summer is June 21.

The game was delayed so WiiSpeak could be implemented properly.

High Voltage: The Conduit is Wii’s “best-looking game”

theconduita1

High Voltage Software’s Josh Olson has decided FPS The Conduit isn’t just pleasing on the eye. No sir. It’s the best-looking videogame on Wii. Don’t hold back, Josh.

“Much has been made of our tech and rightly so – we feel that that we’re the best-looking game on the console,” Olson told CVG.

Nintendo will be pleased to hear that. Graphics don’t matter, however, ever if yours are the “best”.

“It’s really all about the gameplay though, and in targeting the Wii we focused very heavily on the unique controls,” the developer continued.

“We feel that with The Conduit we have a perfectly viable ‘third scheme’ out there for FPS games and we look forward to throwing ourselves into the never-ending debate between the relative merits and shortcomings of the dual analogue and the mouse-and-keyboard among fanboys.”

Sega’s publishing the shooter this “spring”.

MotionPlus not included in The Conduit because it didn’t “fit”

theconduita

High Voltage boss Eric Nofsinger has told 1UP that Wii MotionPlus won’t be included in sci-fi shooter The Conduit because it didn’t really add anything.

Fair enough.

“When we actually implemented it for The Conduit, it didn’t really add anything for our primarily ranged combat,” he said.

“We had hoped that it would allow for better off screen IR tracking, but the device seems to lend itself more naturally for hand to hand combat where the player can calibrate in-between bouts. And that just doesn’t feel like an optimal fit for how we had designed our moment to moment gameplay.”

There’s still no date on the release of Wii MotionPlus.

The Conduit’s out this “spring”.

The Conduit to be Wii Speak enabled, will not use MotionPlus

theconduit

High Voltage’s The Conduit will not be using Wii MotionPlus when it’s released, but it will have Wii Speak enabled when it lands in shops this spring.

There’s a new movie of the futuristic shooter after the break.

Looks like main character Michael Ford should have stayed in bed that morning.

MadWorld, House of the Dead and The Conduit to drive ‘broader market success,’ says Sega

madword12b.jpg

Alan Pritchard (MD of Sega Europe North ) and John Clark (UK sales director) have told MCV that they feel titles such as the 18 rated MadWorld and more adult themed games such as The Conduit can only server to broaden the Wii demographic.

“There have been some good hardcore Wii titles. Resident Evil 4 has done reasonable numbers; Red Steel has also performed really well. But since then, many publishers have migrated towards the more mass-market family titles, so perhaps there hasn’t been the array or depth of hardcore titles on Wii,” said Pritchard. “So there is definitely opportunity here.”

“More family friendly titles are being released on PlayStation and 360 as this is a growth area for these formats. Maybe with Wii there’s a reverse opportunity,” said Clarke.

“We’d like to maintain the success we’ve had on Nintendo formats. One way of achieving that is with new IP like The Conduit and MadWorld, and traditional Sega titles will continue to drive broader market success.”

MadWorld was recently given an 18-rating in the UK.
