Game Set Watch reports the game goes under the title of Monkey Island Tales 1, as distinct from the PC and console versions.

Both the standard iPhone release and HD iPad version go for $6.99. No release date on the remaining four episodes yet.

The offer only applies to US residents, and you need to have your Wii friend code handy in order to receive your reward. Oh, and you have to connect to the Wii Shop Channel to collect it.

The survey is said to take between five and ten minutes, and is available here.

Successful completion by eligible participants will win them the fourth and fifth episodes in the sereies – The Trial & Execution of Guybrush Threepwood and Rise of the Pirate God.

Digital downloads are all very well, of course, but there’s just something about the sight of a shelf full of game boxes that makes you think “gosh! If I ever move, I’m going to need two trucks.”

Nevertheless if you go in for all this physical media stuff, TellTale’s episodic Tales of Monkey Island is getting a nice shiny Collector’s Edition just dying to be arranged by alphabetisation or colour-coding. Have a look at the trailer through the break.

What this trailer courtesy of Gamespot fails to mention is that the Collector’s Edition comes along will come with some juicy bonus content for those who held out.

Additionally, if you’ve already got the whole series, Telltale are running a special deal to assist you in acquiring a disc without causing your wallet to weep.

SCEE has apologized to folks who purchased Tales of Monkey Island over the holidays for not getting all five episodes while taking advantage of the Festive Offers package.

Seems folks only received the first episode instead of the entire booty, but the matter has been rectified by Sony.

“You may have seen (or indeed been part of) a snafu in our entitlement system that meant when you purchased Tales of Monkey Island you were only provided with the first chapter of five,” wrote Sony in the European PSN update. “This has now been fixed so anyone purchasing the season from now on will be provided with all five episodes.

“Anyone who has already purchased the package while it was only providing one episode will have their purchase refunded to their wallet in the next few days. Once you’ve been refunded you will be able to re-purchase the game again and will receive all episodes. As a result, we’ve extended the offer on Tales of Monkey Island for one additional week, until January 12.

“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you.”

Tomorrow, September 19, is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and Telltale and Steam have put Monkey Island games on sale in celebration.

This weekend, Tales of Monkey Island will run you $4.95 for the full season.The sale ends Sunday evening.

Telltale sent us a hilarious email full of pirate talk about this, but we won’t attempt to duplicate it. It’s a bit hard to do, and we feel silly even trying to type like a pirate, let alone talk like one.

Telltale has announced that the Tales of Monkey Island DVD is coming to retail, and if you are already a season owner, you can get it for the cost of shipping.

The Tales of Monkey Island DVD has both the PC and Mac versions of the game, extras like design team commentary videos, official trailers, all five “I Wonder What Happens…” videos, desktop wallpapers and a sneak peek at Telltale’s newest series, Sam and Max: The Devil’s Playhouse.

There is also a Deluxe Edition available which includes:

Telltale has released a video for Tales of Monkey Island’s grand finale, Rise of the Pirate God.

Called the “Story so Far”, the video recaps the events of the first four chapters in the series, which detail Guybrush spreading the pox of LeChuck, his quest for the voodoo exfoliating La Esponge Grande, and his apparent demise at the hands of his arch-nemesis.

The episode lands on PC December 8, and you can watch the video below.

Telltale has announced that Episode 5 for Tales of Monkey Island, Rise of the Pirate God will be released on December 8.

In celebration, the first four episodes are now $8.95 each over on the official site.

Mysterious Happenings Plague the Caribbean as Denizens Anxiously Await Answers in “Rise of the Pirate God” on Tuesday, December 8

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — November 18, 2009 — Telltale Games and LucasArts today are reporting the purported demise of Guybrush Threepwood, one of gaming’s greatest heroes and the Caribbean’s mightiest pirates.

Details are sketchy and authorities have not named any suspects, but unconfirmed reports suggest that the recently reformed pirate LeChuck may somehow be involved. Investigators have not been able to locate the former demon pirate, or Threepwood’s wife Elaine Marley-Threepwood, for questioning.

As the chronicler of Threepwood’s recent exploits in Tales of Monkey Island, Telltale Games assures the masses that answers to many vexing questions will be revealed in the grand finale episode, Rise of the Pirate God, which releases on Tuesday, December 8 at http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland.

During his eventful lifetime, Guybrush stepped in as the Caribbean’s savior on many occasions, vanquishing his arch-rival LeChuck (in ghost, zombie and demon form) countless times. However, it was his uncanny ability to hold his breath for 10 minutes straight that truly set him apart from his pirate peers.

“He wanted what every young man wants – to loot, pillage, and sail the high seas in search of further looting and pillaging opportunities,” said Dave Grossman, veteran Monkey Island game designer and writer. “It’s a great tragedy to see such a productive life seemingly cut off prematurely. The third episode in the Tales of Monkey Island series, Lair of the Leviathan, was released today.

Pirate Bounty Hunter Morgan La Flay, Coronado De Cava, and a special guest from previous Monkey Island games all make an appearance.

Lair of the Leviathan is available on the TellTale Games site and Steam.

Chapters four and five, The Trail and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood and Rise of the Pirate God will be released in October and November, respectively.

Telltale has sent word that the third Tales of Monkey Island episode is to be released on September 29.

Called “Lair of the Leviathan”, it has our hero Guybrush questing for the “voodoo exfoliating La Esponja Grande” inside the body of a massive manatee.

Here’s the description:

“Trapped in the belly of the beast, our hero encounters a surprising band of castaways, including the long-lost (and obsessive-compulsive) explorer Coronado De Cava. Can the Mighty Pirate win the suspicious De Cava’s trust? Will sexy pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay prove to be a ruthless enemy, or an unlikely ally? Will the group find La Esponja Grande in time to save Elaine from the rampant Pox of LeChuck? And will the world be crushed by the gnashing teeth of a certain demonic skull? Tales of Monkey Island’s moist and absorbing third episode, Lair of the Leviathan, will answer some of these urgent questions — and raise still more — as the five month adventure builds to its epic climax!”

The second Tales of Monkey Island episode is called Siege of Spinner Cay, and will release on August 20, Talltale’s confirmed.

A Telltale Games programmer has revealed on the firm’s official forums that iPhone is much more powerful than Wii.

The reasoning for the comment stemmed from complaints regarding framerate issues with the WiiWare version of Tales of Monkey Island.

According to a programmer, developers were limited to 40 megs for WiiWare because of hardware and file size restrictions, where as PC titles created were usually around 150 megs.

“The voices and textures are the way they are because we’re limited to 40 megs for WiiWare titles,” he stated. “The PC versions of our games are usually 150+ megs, and most modern games range anywhere from one to ten gigabytes or more. Talk to Nintendo about this one.

“Frame rate issues will probably get sorted out eventually, but keep in mind that the Wii is just not a powerful console. An iPhone is much more powerful than a Wii, even. The Wii and DS are extremely underpowered and their popularity doesn’t remove the hardware limitations.”

Yikes.

The first episode of the point-and-click adventure game will be released by Telltale Games in just six days for PC and WiiWare.

Dave Grossman, design director for Telltale Games, has said that Tales of Monkey Island may eventually land on Xbox Live Arcade once the PC and WiiWare versions are out the door.

“We didn’t so much decide not to put it on Xbox Live Arcade as we decided not to put it on XBLA now,” Grossman told Eurogamer. “Normally what we do is PC and one of the other platforms, and we’ve been bouncing back and forth between them.

“Yeah, I mean I wouldn’t rule it out. We might do that one later on.”

Grossman also said that he would like to see it on every platform possible and that includes PS3, Mac and Linux.

“We just haven’t gotten there yet,” he said. “Ultimately, we would like to be on every downloadable channel there is. We think that’s the perfect place for our stuff to be. It was just luck of the draw how the business relationships worked out and what chips were falling where.

“And we have to get our engine working on the [PS3], which is quite a bit of work, so we only want to do one at a time.

“We’ll get there [Mac, Linux], but it’s a matter of how and when and can we actually afford to do it.”

The first episode , Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, lands on PC  July 7 with the WiiWare version still to be determined.
