System Shock 2 was once known as Junction Point
Here’s an interesting game nugget you may not have known about: System Shock 2 was once known as Juction Point. The studio which designed the game, Looking Glass, had various gaming luminaries on board at one point such as: Seamus Blackley, Eric and Terri Brosius, Wes Carroll, Doug Church, Ken Levine, Harvey Smith, and many other. Warren Spector was also part of Looking Glass for a time, and his last studio just so happened to be named Junction Point. Something to remember if you are ever on Jeopardy, etc. System Shock 2 is now available on GoG.com. Thanks, Eurogamer.

System Shock 2 launches as GOG exclusive tomorrow
System Shock 2 is the rather excellent spiritual predecessor to the BioShock series. If you haven’t played it already you really should check it out when it launches exclusively on GOG tomorrow – even just to experience SHODAN, one of the best game villains out there today.

System Shock 2 headed to digital distributors at last – rumour
System Shock 2 has escaped years of licensing horror, a report on FleshEatingZipper claims. Citing an anonymous source, the site claims a release on GOG.com is expected “within days”, with a Steam release to follow. A trailer is expected shortly, and the GOG.com version will include extra bundled content. A new company called Night Dive Studios has been linked with the rumour; it apparently specialises in “finding classic, abandoned and forgotten PC games and bringing them back into the hands of gamers”. The critically-acclaimed System Shock 2 was designed by Ken Levine, and BioShock is considered its successor in many ways. It was published by EA but a tangle of licensing has kept it from re-release.

Levine on psychic monkeys and SS2
RPS just posted a “making of System Shock 2″ thing, featuring quotes from Ken “Beard” Levine. The best bit’s about the monkeys.
“I have these psychic monkeys… so I had to work out how and why, in a way which wasn’t ridiculous and hopefully kinda scary,” he said. “When my back’s to a wall, I tend to work better. Everyone else was. ‘Dude – you’re fucking insane. We’re not having monkeys in the game.’”
