Ferrari Challenge dev System 3 has told CVG that because of licensing issues, downloadable content for the title “may never see the light of day.”
“Unfortunately the realities and dead end streets of making licensed content available as a download, and then making it available in different territories have bitten us on the backside,” said System 3 rep.
“System 3 has tried and is still trying to make content available and we haven’t forgotten the people who paid good money for Ferrari Challenge.
“The unfortunate reality is that the content we wanted to release, all of which has been sat around in completed form for months, may never see the light of day as DLC,” the spokesperson added.
Last we heard on the DLC front was back in July when company boss, Mark Cale said content would come last August.

In a post on the AVForums, a System 3 developer has assured Ferrari Challenge owners that problems many are experiencing with the game’s online side are being ironed out, and that the first DLC will be released shortly.
“We are aware of the problem and its being fixed right now,” said the dev, using his Alanok alias.
“Its not going to be an overnight thing and it will need to be tested again so we don’t get the same situation, it will then be sent to Sony for approval. Please bear with us it is being looked into.
“As for DLC the first pack will shortly be released, I think its one track and five new cars, some of which are beauties.”

According to this MCV piece, Activision’s picked up System 3′s Ferrari Challenge for distribution in the US.
“For the last 60 years Ferrari has been synonymous with precision, performance and elegant design, so expectations for the game will be high from auto enthusiasts and racing game fans alike,” said Activision’s Dave Oxford.
“Everyone involved in Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli has been dedicated to ensuring this product over-delivers on the experience of this legendary brand.”
It’s out for PS3, PS2, Wii and DS this summer.
