No plans for Dead Space Wii DLC

Dead Space: Extraction executive producer, Steve Papoutsis, told VG247 that the team will not be taking advantage of the Wii SDHC storage solution meaning, that no downloadbale content is planned for the game.
“I don’t think we have any plans for that right now,” said Papoutsis. “It’s interesting but no.”
Papoutsis has also told us that Extraction won’t be “watered down” and is “confident” of success for the title in spite of the relative failure of other core Wii products.

Dead Space violence won’t be “watered down” for Wii

Worried Dead Space: Extraction’s violence will be diluted for Wii? Fret no more. It isn’t.
“We’re definitely not planning to water it down at all for the Wii, but again, we’re not going to add in shock value just to have that,” the game’s exec producer, Steve Papoutsis, told VG247 in London last week.
“First and foremost we want to make a great game, and we want to make a great game that makes sense in the Dead Space universe.”
The on-rails shooter isn’t gratuitous, though, Papoutsis hastened to add.
“When we were working on Dead Space the original, we wanted to make a game that was terrifying, action-packed, kind of hit on all those things that people want to experience in a survival action horror game. We went all-out to do that,” he said.
“I think now that the expectation is that a Dead Space game has those kind of elements. We’re not going out of our way to make it extremely violent, it’s just the story is what the story is, and it’s not a pretty story.”
Extraction’s out this autumn, exclusively for Wii.

GTA: Chinatown Wars struggled “because of what people are looking to buy,” says Dead Space dev

Dead Space: Extraction exec producer Steve Papoutsis has pinned MadWorld and GTA: Chinatown Wars’ lacklustre reception on Wii and DS down to general unsuitability.
“I think that’s happening because of what people are looking to buy, I guess,” he told VG247 when asked if he was disconcerted by Sega’s struggle in Wii’s core space and GTA: Chinatown Wars’ lack of traction on DS, talking at EA’s spring showcase in London last week.
“I think with our game right now I think we’re hitting on something that’s really interesting and really fun, and we’re hitting on the atmosphere and the visuals that people have started to associate with Dead Space.”
Chinatown Wars managed less than 100,000 units in the US in its opening month, while Sega’s MadWorld sold only 66,000 copies.
Papoutsis didn’t appear to be concerned at Sega and Rockstar’s limited success on Nintendo platforms with M-rated games, saying that he’s keen to see more adult content on Wii.
“As a hardcore gamer myself, I want stuff like this on the Wii,” he added.
“I love the Wii, I love Nintendo. I love all the platforms, but I really want something that I can play co-operatively on the Wii with a friend that hits that sweet spot I think Dead Space: Extraction is in.”
Extraction’s out for Wii this autumn. New shots here.

EA: Dead Space for Wii was a “no-brainer”

EA’s Steve Papoutsis has told Eurogamer that a Wii Dead Space game was a dead cert.
“Doing a Dead Space game for the Nintendo Wii was a no-brainer,” he said.
“It’s a great system that has helped evolve video games. The motion controls the system offers provide developers with an all new tool box to leverage in the games we make.
As well as motion-controlling, EA simply wanted to bring the franchise to a new audience with Extraction.
“Another big reason why we wanted to do Dead Space: Extraction on the Wii is that we had a lot of untold story and wanted to give Wii players a chance to experience a Dead Space game,” Papoutsis added.
Extraction releases later this year.

EA Redwood bossman talks more Dead Space: Extraction

A new interview dishing about Dead Space: Extraction has gone up over on IGN, and Steve Papoutsis says that fans worried over the “on-rails” aspect should not be skeptical.
Man’s been everywhere lately.
“I would tell the Skeptics [sic] that our team is passionate about innovation. Extraction is going to include all of the mechanics that made Dead Space a memorable experience: Stasis, Telekinesis, Strategic Dismemberment, and Zero-G,” he said.
“Our game is going to also deliver on some all new features like Co-op that really involves both players for example cooperative puzzles, brand new weapons, new characters, new enemies, new bosses, new story, and new locations. Our goal is to create an all new experience on the Nintendo Wii that feels custom built for that platform, and I think we are on track to do that.”
He then went on to chat a bit about the game, these being the high points:
- The heroine of Extraction, Lexine, is in her early 20′s and that you are “introduced to her pretty quickly in the game”.
- Controls will be fairly simple. Stasis: Point the Wii Remote at enemy or object then hit the Stasis button to fire the projectile. Dismemberment: Aim your Wii Remote at limbs, fire and then “pop goes the Necromorph”.
- The Arc Welder is one of the new weapons added for the game and it fires a bolt of energy which will arc between enemies. It damage depends on how many enemies it “comes into contact with”.
- Game will be just as bloody and gore filled as the first release.
