Painkiller: Hell & Damnation developer The Farm51 has opened up its hellish shooter to the community, by adding mod and Steam Workshop support into the mix. It’s also coming to Linux and Mac soon.

Helm’s Deep Reborn map added to official Left 4 Dead 2 servers
Valve has added the Steam Workshop created Helm’s Deep Reborn map to the official Left 4 Dead 2 servers, alongside an update which fixes an issue with dedicated servers and workshop content. The map, as you’ve already figured out, adds Helm’s Deep from Lord of the Rings to the zombie shooter. It sounds kookie enough to make me want to try it despite being horrible at L4D2. Counter-Strike: Global Offense – Map Workshop introduces new maps, modes
Valve has launched the Map Workshop for Counter-Strike: Global Offense. This will make it easier for players to access and shoot things on new maps, and discover new game modes designed by the community. Users can also vote for favorites and subscribe to any map or game mode, and Steam will even do the work for you by automatically downloading the map, and updating it “whenever the author makes a change.” Players will be able to form quick-matches, private matches through Play With Friends, and even play offline with AI bots. Serious Sam 3 joins Steam Workshop
Croteam’s Serious Editor has joined the ranks of the Steam Workshop-compatible. The tools were in beta for a short time, so the suite has gone live with more than 60 mods already available, including multiplayer and survival mode maps, character skins, and weapon and enemy modifications. The Editor should be available to all Serious Sam 3 owners via the Tools section of their Steam library.

Steam Workshop turns one, creations downloaded over 55 million times
Steam Workshop, a submission path for game items created and sold by gamers, has turned one year old. After launching through Team Fortress 2, the Workshop now supports various titles including including Skyrim, Portal 2, Civilization V and more, each with varying models of player-created content. Valve said there are 16 shipped game titles which support Steam Workshop, with more on the way. To date, 300,000 items are available including full games made with GameMaker Studio, and downloaded over 55 million times.

Steam Workshop support coming to Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is getting Steam Workshop support as well as an “expanded scripting tool” so folks can create “deeper and more varied experiences inside of Left 4 Dead 2.” These features are planned for Linux users,” and will start in the middle of next month. Skyrim mods reach 10,000 on Steam Workshop
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has inspired over 10,000 mods through Steam Workshop. StrategyInformer flagged the milestone, noting that the lucky 10,000th upload is the Shannara Weapon Set. Skyrim mods span the whole gamut from simple tweaks like Mythor’s Moar Dragons to character creation suites to full, storied plug in modules to the inevitable near-nude costumes.

Scribblenauts Unlimited to launch with Steam Workshop on PC
Scribblenauts Unlimited will launch with Steam Workshop on PC, 5th Cell announced today at PAX. A pre-show demonstration of the game detailed how players will be able to create objected, and the keyboard and mouse controls were also demoed. At present, the PC version supports WASD movement as well as click-to-move control with the mouse. The Steam version will feature Steam achievements and sharing through Steam Workshop. 5th Cell said over 300 puzzles will be included in the game, over 100,000 words and adjectives, and the Object Editor. Scribblenauts Unlimited is slated for release on 3DS, PC, and Wii U later this year. Via Polygon.

Civilization V to receive Steam Workshop support
Firaxis will replace Civilization V’s existing mod browser system with integrated Steam Workshop support. The grand strategy will be the seventh game to announce Workshop support after Team Fortress 2, Portal, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the forthcoming Toki Tori, Garry’s Mod and Gettysburg: Armored Warfare. Skyrim Steam mods have generated over 13.6 million downloads
“Skyrim Steam Workshop downloads are over 13.6 million. PC mods FTW,” the Bethesda Game Studios Twitter announced earlier today. The figure does not include mods released outside the Bethesda-sanctioned Steam Workshop environment, suggesting the real figure is probably even more impressive than that. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released in November last year and attracted millions of PC players with an average play time of 75 hours each. At time of writing it’s the third most popular game on Steam.
