SWTOR’s Gree in-game event returns next week
The ancient Gree starship, Gray Secant, is returning to Ilum May 21-28, and will provide SWTOR players with some nifty rewards such as unique armor, pets, weapons, and the like. Players will earn Reputation points has they “fight the Gree’s grand mission,” and players level 45 and over can jump into the event before it returns at level 55 in the future. SWTOR update 2.1 is live, video shows dyes and other customization options
Bioware has released a SWTOR video giving you a better look at the new customization options which launched today with update 2.1. You were given a slight glimpse last week, now set your eyes on the video below which shows off the Appearance Designer in action. And don’t forget about the new playable Cathar species either.

SWTOR dye modules coming with next week’s update previewed
SWTOR is getting dye modules with game update 2.1, and to show these off a bit, BioWare has released a new video. It’s less than a minute long, but it gives you the idea well enough. Yes friends, now you can survey your surroundings in keen detail. This is what we live for; this is why the bones of our hands are permanently fused into the WASD configuration – so we can gaze at virtual landscapes in freedom. Beautiful. It also allows you to find hidden objects or something; I don’t know, I’m too busy questioning my life choices to read the whole thing.

SWTOR has 2 million new accounts since going F2P, new customization features planned
Star Wars: The Old Republic has gained 2 million new accounts since going free-to-play, according to the latest State of the Game letter from executive producer Jeff Hickman. He also said that “thousands of new players jumping in every single day,” and the MMO’s “high capacity servers are teeming with people.” This spring, the game’s Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion will launch, and a new customization feature giving players more options to change their character’s appearance using Cartel Coins will be released for the MMO sometime this summer. BioWare is throwing a series of double XP weekends for Star Wars: The Old Republic, kicking off at 6:00PM GMT on March 15. Each promotional weekend runs well into the following Monday, and there are four scheduled; visit the SWTOR blog for full times and dates, as well as details of the Relics of the Gree event which runs concurrently.

SWTOR: Rise of the Hutt Cartel detailed in new dev blog
Over on the Star Wars: The Old Republic developer blog, BioWare has detailed the process of creating the planet Makeb, an all-original addition to the Star Wars universe coming in the Rise of the Hutt Cartel digital expansion. Makeb is a beautiful world peppered by towering geological formations, but it has been ravaged by ecological disaster and is a hostile environment. The Hutt Cartel are the main antagonists on Makeb, and the story takes in a rare instance of the Republic overcoming the Empire. Hit the link for more.

SWTOR login procedure changed to beef up security
Star Wars: The Old Republic players will soon be required to log in using their screen name, not email address. The change is said to be a pre-emptive strike against account hacks, which may increase with an upcoming expansion, and will be made mandatory next month, although players are encouraged to switch as soon as possible. According to Shack News, BioWare announced the change in a news post, but it’s inaccessible at this time.

Star Wars: The Old Republic down tonight
Star Wars: The Old Republic servers will be down later today, with a maintenance windows kicking off at 5:00AM CST. BioWare expects the downtime to last two hours, and all servers will be down. After they come back up, simply restart your game launcher to grab the patch. Details have not been provided, but the patch will presumably address feedback on Update 1.7, which arrived earlier this week.

SWTOR Relics of Gree live event kicks off later today
Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Relics of Gree live event is slated to begin when February 12 hits the US, That VideoGame Blog reports. The event runs till February 26 and offers weapons and armour sets as completion rewards. SWTOR’s “gay planet” is behind a pay wall
Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion will finally deliver long-awaited same-sex romance options, a BioWare mainstay sadly missing from the MMORPG at launch. But as PCGamesN points out in a biting editorial, these new romance options will only be available on a single planet, Makeb, and you’ll have to be high level and fork out some cash in order to access it. Ouch. The expansion is due in northern spring.
