Former Bizarre and Splash Damage devs launch online gaming service Fireteam
A new online service called Fireteam, made up of former Splash Damage, Bizarre and Rackage developers Arnout van Meer, Ben Hopkinson and Stephen Gaffney, has launched, and it aims to provide an online service suite to console, free-to-play, mobile and PC developers.

Splash Damage hires ex-FIFA director Griff Jenkins as director of production
Splash Damage has announced it’s appointed Griff Jenkins as its new director of production and has been given a seat on the Board of Directors. Prior to joining studio, Jenkins spent seven years at EA and was the firm’s senior development director for multiple FIFA and worked on the Need for Speed series. “Griff’s new role at Splash Damage will be to improve our games by improving the way we make them,” said Splash Damage CEO Paul Wedgwood. “Under Griff’s leadership we’ll elevate production to a discipline on par with art, design, and programming. Prior positions held by Jenkins include stints at Criterion, Kuju, and Eidos where he worked on the Championship Manager series.

GameStop selling Brink new for 97p
GameStop is selling Splash Damage shooter Brink, brand spanking new, for 97p on Xbox 360. The Bethesda-published resistance-security title launched in May earlier this year for PS3, 360 and PC. You’d be utterly bonkers to not buy it at a quid. Go do it here.

Clan support and tournaments to be included in Brink update
Splash Damage has announced it’s close to releasing an update for Brink, which will bring full clan support, ladders and tournaments to all versions of the game. Brink, Enslaved, The Curfew up for Writers Guild award
Organisers of the Writers Guild Awards have announced the nominations for the Best Videogame awards. Splash Damage’s Ed Stern for Brink, Ninja Theory’s Tameem Antoniades & film producer Alex Garland for Enslaved and ex-journo Kieron Gillen for The Curfew are all up for the award, which will be given out on November 16 at Notting Hill.

Brink’s Agents of Change DLC releasing next week on August 3
Brink’s first bit of DLC, Agents of Change will be released next week on August 3 for PS3, Steam, and Xbox 360 and will be free for two weeks. The DLC sees a ship from the outside world showing up and putting a bit of a snag in the peace agreement between the Resistance and Security. The underwater Labs Facility, and the Founder’s Tower where the Ark’s elite live, will be the two new battle zones. The level capo has been increased to 24, and new abilities, customization options and weapon attachments will be included in the DLC. Thanks, Gematsu.

Brink goes live on Steam for sub-£25
Nearly two months after the console versions and the retail SKU launched, Steam’s finally gone live with Brink. For those who haven’t bought the Splash Damage shooter for PC yet, it’s currently on a 25 percent discount, priced at £22.49. The game launched back in May for PS3 and 360, as well as on PC at retail, but unknown issues with Steam seen its release on the service mysteriously delayed until now. This comes before the release of brand new DLC Agents of Change. You can buy the game here.

Splash Damage drops Brink PC update
As promised, Splash Damage has launched a new update for the PC version of Brink. The update will fix audio and memory bugs, graphical performance is improved as well as additional interface and server issues.
