America’s PSPgo early adoption deal is Rock Band Unplugged demo

rockbandunplugged

Americans that take the plunge with a new PSPgo handset are to be given a free Rock Band Unplugged demo along with the hardware, according to this Kotaku piece.

Which is great. If it wasn’t for the fact that Europeans get a free copy of GT PSP.

The US offer’s a bit more than a standard demo, thankfully. It comes with five songs and it compatible with any tracks you buy from the PS Store.

But still.

Check out the insides of the PSPgo, poor thing

pspgoparts

Someone has torn to bits a PSPgo so that you can see its innards.

Looking inside you see chips, wires, pads, and other stuff that we have no idea what it is or does.

Why would someone tear apart a perfectly good electronic is beyond us, but if you are the type that likes to see the insides of things – there are 12 pictures for you to ogle.

PSPgo to retail for £199 at Tesco, not £225

pspgo3

Let the price wars begin.

Tesco are listing the PSPgo for £199.97, £25 short of the RRP. Earlier this week at GamesCom, SCEE told VG247 that the console would retail for £224.99 when it would launch on October 1 in the UK.

The supermarket is the first to dramatically cut the price of the console before it’s even launched. If you do pre-order it from there, you’ll also get free delivery. The only downside is that it’ll be released on October 2 and not October 1.

Gamestop: We’re “excited” for PSPgo

pspgowhite

Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing at GameStop US, Tony Bartel, has said the retailer is very “excited” for the impending release of the PSPgo on October 1 in the US.

Speaking in the company’s financial call for the quarter of Q2 09, Bartel said that they were excited even more to be selling the new PSP model.

“On the PSPgo, we are excited to be carrying that for a couple reasons. We do participate in the downstream revenue via both POSA (point of sale activation) cards and through points cards,” said the GS exec.

“We are very excited about selling the PSPgo. We are very excited to be reserving it; reserves are picking. And we have a very clear roadmap as to how we can drive profitability on the sale of games.”

In case you can’t tell, he says “excited” quite a fair bit.

More over at IGN. If you’re into the kind of thing, read Gamestop’s financials here.

The PSPgo launches on October 1 in the US and Europe, with a November 1 launch in Japan. It’ll retail for £225 here in the UK

House: PSPgo feedback positive, initial consumers to benefit

pspgo21

SCEE president Andrew House has told VG247 that initial feedback for PSPgo has been positive, and the consumers who hop on board first will benefit.

The console was given prices of $249/€249/¥24,980 when the console was announced back at E3 in June. And only last night did SCEE tell us that it’ll retail for £224.99.

“I think, clearly, there is a delta there between PSPgo and the existing PSP-3000. We’ve received, to date, some tremendous anecdotal feedback on the form factor and the sheer sexiness of the device which I think bodes well for its launch.

“We, at least for Europe, were very keen to put an initial offer in place that would reward the consumer who jumps on board first. Therefore, I think the offer that we announced yesterday, that those initial purchasers will be able to get GT for PSP absolutely free. I think that goes a long way to addressing that.

“We’re also looking at some other plans further down the line that will come together for launch around people who have existing UMD libraries and what we can do to incentivize those as well. So, I think that and a combination of what is a really very attractive portable device leaves us feeling fairly confident where we are right now.”

Exclusive: Andrew House talks to VG247 about price cuts and going digital in a retail market

andrewhouse

Interview by Patrick Garratt.

SCEE president Andrew House took time out of his busy schedule at GamesCom to have a chat with VG247 regarding all things PS3 price-cut, PSPgo, how important it is for developers to comprehend the PS3 hardware, and the future of digital downloads.

Not only did House mention that Sony would  love to drop the price of PS3 to the $199 price point of the PS2 peak should it be fiscally possible, he also touched a bit on yesterday’s strange omission of a date for Gran Truismo 5, and how those who preorder the initial offering of PSPgo will get GT PSP for free.

There are loads of goodies in the interview, you should read on past the break.

GamesCom: Videos for Digital Reader and PSP Minis

pspcomicsvc

Sony has released videos for both the Digital Reader and PSP minis.

We have both posted after the break courtesy of Joystiq.

For now, the Digital Reader is for comics only, but who knows what the future holds. Digital copies of Wuthering Heights, The Doppelganger or Atonement may not be just a pipe dream folks. We’ll have to wait and see.

Minis are expected to launch with the Go on October 1. Yay.

Watch on.

Rumor: PSPgo to launch with Rock Band Unplugged voucher

pspgorockbandbundle

Best Buy has the PSPgo listed on its website and it says that handheld will come with a voucher to download Rock Band Unplugged.

You can get it, apparently, in Pearl White or Piano Black.

No confirmation from Sony, but Best Buy has it listed anyway.

Sony’s PSP strategy includes new content with cheaper, smaller downloadable games

pspgo

Sony has said that it’s planning to start wooing developers for digitally distributed games on PSP by doing away with concept approval and releasing less expensive developer kits and low price points for new titles.

“We’re introducing new initiatives for the PSP which take it beyond traditional gaming, but still includes elements from gaming, and also includes new developers,” SCEE’s head of developer relations Zeno Colaco told Develop at E3.

So far, over 50 studios around the world are making new kinds of games and applications and creations will be offered through a separate area of the PlayStation Store open to the PSP and PSPgo.

Emerging markets, including India’s Gameshastra and Creat have also signed on but the development will not be reminiscent of Apple’s SDK with iPhone, because Sony’s SDK will not be made available publicly.

“It is still a professional environment, you still need a development kit and you still need to have investment and a team,” he stated. “But it can be a small team. We don’t see any of the restrictions on the disc-based space being in this space.”
