NGP takes all comers: Call of Duty, Metal Gear, Yakuza, Lost Planet, Monster Hunter, more demonstrated
The PlayStation meeting may have been Sony’s party, but the publisher certainly didn’t hog the spotlight. Third-parties got in on the action too. How many third-parties? All of them, basically.

Perry calls Koller out on “PSP2″ UMD claims

Acclaim boss Dave Perry’s called on SCEA’s John Koller to publicly deny Sony’s upcoming, unannounced PSP revamp won’t include UMD support.
“John Koller is publically questioning my post about PSP 2,” Perry said on his Twitter.
“So I confirmed with Top PSP 2 developers. John, state that PSP 2 WILL have UMD.”
It won’t have UMD, obviously. Sony just doesn’t want to talk about anything to do with it yet.
“PSP2″ isn’t a successor at all, more a “reimagining” of the original design. It’s known to have a slide screen and is expected to be announced at E3.
Thanks, Eurogamer.

“Source” goes offensive over PSP2 rumours
“A source close to Sony” has issued a less than subtle denial to IGN’s PSP2 rumour, calling the talk of a touch-screen sequel to the handheld “nonsense.”
“Clearly, being a quiet time of year, many, what we thought to be credible websites, are making up stories about PSP2, and how it allows you to teleport across the globe, travel through time, and will be powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses,” MCV was told today.
“Hopefully, you can sense a mild tone of sarcasm, which should hopefully indicate how ‘on the money’ IGN are. Needless to say, we don’t comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense.”
Don’t hold back, “source.” Sony’s put out an official denial of the story, according to TechRadar, although no quote was given.

We can’t say we’re surprised at this one, really.

PSP2 “coming soon,” according to IGN
IGN’s rumouring that a second PSP, replete with multi-touchscreens, will be with us sooner rather than later.
From the piece:
IGN has learned from several credible sources that the PSP 2 is indeed on the horizon, and will be packing multi-touch technology. According to our sources, the PSP 2 will feature a widescreen multi-touch interface comparable to that of the iPhone for both in-game control and menu navigation.
Talk’s gathering pace on this. Eurogamer ran a piece in December saying a new PSP unit, described by the site as “PSP-4000,” would release in 2009.
Sony promptly flattened the chat. Just make sure it’s a phone as well, please, Sony.

PSP2 in development? “No plans,” reiterates Sony
Sony’s once again said it has no plans to release “PSP2,” despite Eurogamer rumouring the contrary earlier this week.
From Alley Insider:
Speaking to SAI earlier today, Sony Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller said he’s familiar with Internet reports PSP2 game development is already underway, but said the rumors are completely unfounded. What’s going on, Koller told us, is Sony is pushing developers away from its “Universal Media Discs” and towards digital distribution of games via the PSP store. Someone misinterpreted the new push as “PSP2″ development, Koller said.
Sony still says “no plans for a PSP2 are underway.”
