midnightclubla2

Nelson’s confirmed that Army of Two, Midnight Club: LA and Sonic Unleashed have all been added to 360′s Games on Demand service.

Buy them. You may as well. Apparently, “THE BEST WAY TO SEE LOS ANGELES IS AT 245 MPH.” You can’t argue with that.

Chun-nan Adventure DLC pack hits Sonic Unleashed

werehog

Sonic Unleashed has a new DLC pack available for 250 MS Points ($3.00)

The 528 Mb Chun-nan Adventure Pack has four daytime levels, as well as two Werehog areas in a “mountainous region best known for its dragon roads and majestic peaks.”

These are the same levels featured in the Japanese PS3 release, apparently.

Concept art shows the Sonic: Unleashed that could have been

sonic unleashed concept

A bit of concept art has surfaced showing just how different Sega’s blue hedgehog might have looked in Sonic: Unleashed.

Yeti, gangsta, tiger-striped — good thing they went with the werehog, eh?

GameStation – Fallout 3 and Sonic Unleashed half price

fallout3a.jpg

We’re told this morning that GameStation is to put Fallout 3 on sale for half price today, at £20.

The limited edition tins are also being reduced, with the console versions costing £25 and the PC CE at £20.

Sonic Unleashed is also getting the drop treatment this week, down to £20.

Fallout 3 for £20 is a bit silly. You owe it to yourself.

Sonic Unleashed a little bit delayed in North America

sonicart3.jpg

Japan still has Sonic bound-and-gagged tightest, but North America’s now officially detaining the blue hedgehog-man as well. Probably as some kind of symbolic gesture.

According to IGN, Sonic Unleashed’s PlayStation 2 and Wii iterations will arrive on schedule, but after that, the scrambling begins. First up, the game isn’t hitting North American Xbox 360s until November 24 – a week after its scheduled release. The PS3, meanwhile, won’t be downing its helping of hedgehog until an unspecified date in December.

Bad signs? Probably. But we still hold out hope that the game’s been delayed because it’s too awesome, and Sega’s feeling merciful.

Sonic Unleashed can win back the fans, says Sega

sonicart.jpg

Speaking to Kikizo, Sonic Team studio director Yoshihisa Hashimoto has said that Sonic Unleashed is going to be the game to win back the hedgehog’s fans.

“Yes, I do think so,” he said when asked if the faithful will be pleased.

“Because Sonic Unleashed has the game play elements that loyal Sonic fans want. It is not designed to be in the same format as classic Sonic, but we took out the best part of classic Sonic and successfully revived it to be a new Sonic the Hedgehog of the 21st Century.”

Hashimoto did concede, however, that criticisms of recent Sonic games were valid.

“I think the fans’ evaluations are fair I often read the forums run by Sonic fans on a routine basis,” he said. “I hardly feel any discomfort from their comments. I often find myself rather agreeable to them.”

More through there.

Sonic Unleashed delayed until 2009 in Japan, still on track in West

sonica.jpg

Well this is strange. According to a report by Siliconera, Sonic’s latest adventure won’t be making a pit stop in Japan until spring of 2009. However, the game’s release date remains unaffected in other territories.

And that’d be fine – if not for one perplexing detail. Apparently, Sega is slowing Sonic’s Japanese release in order to improve the game’s quality. But unless Sega unleashes a patch when the blue blur finally collides with the land of the rising sun, it appears that everyone else will miss out on the game’s elongated spruce-up. After all, the game arrives next week in North America and soon after elsewhere.

We just wonder what kind of “improvements” Sega feels shouldn’t migrate out of Japan. The eyes, maybe? Or other, er, regions?

New Sonic Unleashed video and screens

Video after the break, screenshots over at CVG. All looking very nice indeed, we think. Very smooth and brightly coloured: just how Sonic should be.

In other Sonic the Hedgehog news from today, he’s apparently the UK’s favourite video game character.

Click the links to find out why. Game’s out later this year.

Sonic Unleashed to “create a pace that never allows the player to grow bored”

sonicunleashed10.jpg

According to this Campsonic exposé of the current issue of GamesTM, Sonic Unleashed lead designer Yoshihisa Hashimoto says that each level will last around five minutes, so that the player never becomes bored.

“There are a couple of guidelines we followed in designing the levels,” he said. “The first is that each 2D or 3D section should last around 15-30 seconds. The second is that the overall stage should be no more than five minutes long.

“We try to switch between 2D and 3D as often as possible so that no one sequence lasts too long. The idea is to create a pace that never allows the player to grow bored.”

Sonic Unleashed not coming to DS

Despite Nintendo UK claiming that Sonic Unleashed is coming to DS this afternoon, Sega told Videogamer.com that it is, in fact, not.

Funny how those completely separate wires can get so crossed. Keeps up laughing all night.

New Sonic Unleashed footage released

After the break. Hopefully downloading Firefox 3 later will make video on the internet work again, because if we try to upgrade Flash one more time we’re going to get reported to the Flash police for theft. In other words, we can’t watch it.

Hopefully you can.

First Sonic Unleashed impressions published

sonicunleashed8.jpg

Gamespot’s posted what we’re pretty sure is the first impressions piece of Sega’s Sonic Unleashed. From the piece:

Based on what we saw we’re cautiously optimistic about Sonic Unleashed. Our hunger for a really good update of Sonic remains unsated, and it sounds as though the team understands that 2006′s franchise reboot didn’t do anyone any favors. We like the sense of speed the team is going for and the emphasis on just plowing through levels while bopping enemies and doing crazy leaps.

Have a read.
