Shack News reports the trailer is available on both the UK and US OnLive servers.

The demo grants access to the first 30 minutes of the game.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a co-operative RPG which can be played with up to two buddies, including one on the couch beside you, thanks to spliscreen.

The game released this week in the US, and is expected in Europe on November 9, in Australia on November 16, and the UK on November 25. It’s available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to OnLive.

According to a summary on the EU PS Blog, the Witch-king isn’t the primary antagonist of the game, as he’s mainly off doing his thing as seen in the books and film trilogy.

Instead, we get Agandaûr, Sauron’s lieutenant in the North. Snowblind have this nasty character involved in a canonical Nazgûl (ringwraith) attack on a group of rangers at Sarn Ford.

“Agandaûr is called upon to support the Nazgûl’s hunt – his mission is to organize evil forces in the North to make a coordinated attack on Sauron’s enemies in Eriador. Agandaûr leads the efforts of the Witch-king and Sauron the Dark Lord in the North. In War in the North Aragorn sends players to thwart his effort, beginning their long struggle to be a constant thorn in Agandaûr’s side.”

War in the North arrives on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next week.

Originally scheduled for a November 2 release, local representatives this morning announced a new date of November 16. The change moves it away from a week dominated by Uncharted 3 and puts it on the other side of Skyrim, but in direct competition with Skyward Sword.

The game was slated for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release in early November in other territories.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North features three-player co-op multiplayer, which support for two players locally and one online as well as purely online. Players choose from one of three heroes – an elven mage, human ranger, and dwarvern fighter – and play through events which take place in the background of the film trilogy.

There’s plenty of combat gameplay to tempt you towards picking the human; you might have to fight off your buddies to get a look in. War in the North supports three players with local and online co-op – you can even mix things up and have two of you on the couch and one online if you like.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North releases on November 1 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Since the resulting files are a little difficult to view, Warner Bros. has helpfully made videos, which you can look out without twisting your eyeballs unduly. Voila.

War in the North is a co-op focussed action RPG from Snowblind, due November 1 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Set during the events of The Lord of the Rings, War in the North tells the story of three champions from conflicts only touched on in both the books and films.

The game boasts two and three-player online co-op, a speciality of developer Snowblind Studios, and even allows for split-screen if you want one of your buddies to fight over the popcorn with. It’s due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early November, although the UK date is yet to be locked down.

“I think we’ve tried to really branch off the giant scale that they did so well in the films, they really nailed that,” game producer Ruth Tomandi told VG247 on the phone yesterday.

“We’ve really been trying to get that really expansive sense of Middle Earth is a huge place full of mystery and adventure. So we try to get big vistas in the outdoor areas as much as possible.”

Tomandi added that it was looking to achieve the same type of scale with the indoor areas in the game, such as caverns.

“We’re trying to capture that same sense of scale in a couple of places. We really want huge expansive caverns full of action and that kind of stuff. So we’re drawing as much as we can on the movies for that.”

When asked about DLC for the game, Tomandi said that it was being “discussed,” but that it was not “talking about that yet” besides that.

Warner confirmed today that Lord of the Rings: War in the North would launch in November for PS3, 360 and PC.

War in the North is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in northern autumn.

“That’s really what we want,” producer Ruth Tomandl told Gamespot.

“For core gamers to be able to play a game that challenges them with someone who might not be a core gamer but who really likes Lord of the Rings or who wants to play that couch co-op action RPGs.”

Warner Bros. put Snowblind on the project thanks to its past credits in the genre, including Baldur’s gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath.

“Snowblind’s history is co-op action RPGs. That’s what they’re known for – that’s really what we’re good at,” Tomandl said.

“So when Warner Bros. acquired Snowblind and acquired the rights to Lord of the Rings for games, they knew it was a really great match. They really wanted a Lord of the Rings game that focussed on co-op, focussed on that fellowship aspect of it, that idea of working together.

“That’s really Snowblind’s strength, so that’s why they chose us for it.”

War in the North will support single player, or two- to three-player multiplayer on all three platforms.

Both console version will support splitscreen in addition to online multiplayer, meaning you and a buddy can sit side-by-side on the couch and be joined by a third over the Internet.

If you prefer to go it alone or only bring one mate, then the AI takes over. Tomandl commented that the AI is “actually really good at the game”.

Eagles in The Lord of the Rings were not the most noble of creatures, save for the Great Eagles out of the northern mountains.

Beleram hails from the later, and in War in the North, he is first introduced when the party of in-game heroes come upon him chained up in Fornost Erain located at the south end of the North Downs.

The fortress, at the time the War of the Ring takes place, has been abandoned for centuries and is now overrun with foul creatures.

In the game, this Great Eagle becomes almost a fourth member of the player’s party by providing an aerial and combat advantage as the game heroes try to overthrow Agandaur, Sauron’s chief lieutenant in the North. Beleram’s skills and strengths, when strategically used, can preserve the life of the Fellowship and the group’s mission.

This new mechanic will be on display during E3 next week via a playable demo.

The video navigates the mountains of Gundabad as the fellowship of three investigate rumours of an enemy enclave within the region.

Stahl demonstrated the co-operative gameplay between the three players, ad the fellowship uses long and short range attacks, as well as a multitude of weapons to defeat foul enemies.

You even get to see a troll get stabbed through the head. Something we throughly enjoyed seeing and participating in when we played this exact level during GDC in March.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North will be released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this year.

Reason being, War in the North portrays the great battle of the North as part of the epic War of the Ring, but not something that was detailed in the books or the movies. It was alluded to, but not focused on. This is where the game comes in.

Players will get to exploring unseen lands, story elements, and characters from Middle-earth as well as elements familiar from the films – so it won’t be totally unfamiliar territory at all times.

There’s some character customization and development, upgradeable weapons, skills, and special abilities, and for those who don’t want to fight alone, there’s also interdependent co-op for up to three players to form their own Fellowship to fight Sauron’s forces in the North. Don’t worry – there’s online play as well.

It looks like there will plenty of orcs to slay, and watching the trailer, we saw a warg or two in there as well – so we are honing our virtual blades as well speak. We abhor both with equal voracity.

We really liked what Snowblind did with Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath on PS2, as we’ve said before,  so we are looking forward to this – as if you couldn’t tell.

Announced during E3, it’s out next year for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Snowblind, the folks that brought you Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, announced today that it and Warner Bros. are working on a new Lord of the Rings title, called War in the North.

It’s an action-RPG, complete with online, and interdependent co-op for up to three players to form their own Fellowship to fight Sauron’s forces in the North.

War in the North explores both original and familiar narrative elements of the J.R.R. Tolkien penned saga and is aimed at the mature audience.

“With The Lord of the Rings: War in the North we are taking a mature approach to the widely celebrated property with authentic portrayals of battles and all new storylines,” said Martin Tremblay, president, Warner Bros. Studios.

“Utilising the award-winning and passionate development team at Snowblind Studios, we are looking to evolve the RPG experience and deliver The Lord of the Rings game fans have been waiting for.”

Story and locations in the game will explore unseen lands, story elements and characters from Middle-earth as well as elements familiar from past feature films, complete with character customization and development, upgradeable weapons, skills and special abilities.

It’s out on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2011, and Warner’s other LOTR game, Aragorn’s Quest, is due out on PS2, PS3, Wii, DS and PSP this fall.

Microsoft has cut the price of Gears of War 2 expansion pack Dark Corners from 1600 to 1200 MS Points. That’s £10.20 or €14.40.

That’s not all, as the All Fronts Collection, which features the aforementioned Dark Corners, Flashback, Combustible and Snowblind will be made available as a digital download from Xbox Live for a mere 15 quid.

Why the price cut? “Because it felt like the right thing to do,” said Epic’s Rod Fegusson to IGN. That’s why.

Epic will release all Gears of War 2 DLC content into one retail package titled the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection on July 28.

It contains previously released DLC Combustible, Flashback, Snowblind as well as Dark Corners, which contains seven new multiplayer map packs along with a deleted campaign called Road to Ruin, which has Dom and Marcus returning to the Locust Hollow and features a stealth mode.

Other contents include an introductory video, a premium theme, poster, and strategy guide.

The Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection will run you $19.99, and details for the Road to Ruin section are posted from the press release after the break.

Dark Corners will also be made available individually for 1600 MS Points the same day.

• Allfathers Garden: Honor the sacred grounds of the Coalition founders in this explosive map, where powerful weapons catalyze fast and furious action at this COG landmark.

• Memorial: Set near the Eternal Flame, which pays tribute to the fallen soldiers on the battlefield, a hard-fought battle ensues at the Tomb of Unknowns. Putting their flank formation and evasive skills to the test, players will fight to control the Boomshot.

• Sanctuary: Once a peaceful ground for reflection and remembrance, all that remains of the Sanctuary is the chill of death. Feast your eyes on the arsenal of weapons available as you make your way through the tight paths and blind corners of the Locust-damaged temple corridors.

• Nowhere: Set in the middle of what was once a destination for weary desert travellers, the land is now barren and devoid of life. Pick off your enemies with the Longshot sniper rifle and make your way to the stairwell with a well-fortified team during this intense firefight.
