SingStar has added 1.5 million new users since going free-to-play in October 2012. According to studio director Dave Ranyard, speaking at the Develop conference, only 2 million users had been attached to the game in the five years on the market since before the switch. Per Ranyard, 6% of those who download the free app on PS3 purchase premium downloads of songs – even a handful have downloaded over 1,000 titles. Thanks, Gamasutra.

SCEE has confirmed that a new patch is in the works for SingStar, after some massive bugs for the game were found following the release of update 4.2.
“As soon as we were aware of these issues, the senior SingStar development team came together and have been working flat out to fix these issues with the aim of getting a patch out as soon as possible,” said SingStar director Dave Ranyard, speaking on the EU PS Blog.
“Due to the severity of these bugs there was a very real possibility of a “quick fix” actually making these problems worse and that is why we have opted instead for a very thorough development and QA test process to ensure that the problems that you are experiencing are resolved.”
However, Ranyard did promise that the soonest we would see a patch is early December.
Meanwhile, GAF has uncovered evidence that a track pack involving Sir Paul McCartney is on the way. This could tie in with the upcoming release of his live DVD/CD “Good Evening New York City”.
Then again, if you don’t care for the solo stuff, and have Beatles: Rock Band, buy Sgt. Pepper tomorrow.

Sony’s SingStar Latino for PS2 and PS3 has been given a rating by the ESRB.
While it has a Teen rating, the description for the game given by the ESRB is rather hilarious as it mentions the videos and song lyrics included in the game.
We can’t do it justice, so here’s what we pulled from the site:
Some music videos depict women in revealing clothing (e.g., tight pants, bikini tops, bra-like tops, shirts/dresses that expose deep cleavage) and performing provocative dance moves (e.g., touching breasts and crotch, grinding and gyrating hips). One video depicts a couple, presumably nude, rolling around and kissing underneath bedsheets. The game includes a video with an extended allusion to bodily fluids: A painting depicts a pipe connected to a man’s groin and emptying a yellow fluid into a stream. As the song plays in the background (e.g., “Mi agüita amarilla…Mo ja las ca lles…Y la empie zo a mear.” [My little yellow water…It wets the streets…And I start to pee.]), a teacher pours a yellow fluid into several cups and serves them to his students, who drink heartily. …… Song lyrics occasionally contain suggestive/sexual references (e.g., “Y no me hables de sexo seguro” [And don't talk to me about safe sex] and “Ni un instinto animal que el sexo vuelva loco” ["Not an animal instinct that goes nuts for sex]).
We can’t wait to see what the ESRB has to say about SingStar Gangsta Rap should that ever come out.
Thanks for the laugh, Joystiq.
