It has been languishing in the writing phase since then, but now the project appears to be picking up speed, as the co-writer of 2011 action flick Hanna has joined the project to pledge his writing skills.

If last week’s quote from the head of PlayStation software development, Scott Rhode, wasn’t enough to put your mind at ease with regard to highly anticipated and in-no-way-canned Sony title, The Last Guardian, here’s another. This time it’s from the beautiful mind that brought us Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and is helping to (eventually) bring us The Last Guardian, the man himself, Fumito Ueda, who told Kotaku that work is indeed coming along on the title, “It’s been business as usual,” he said. “The only things that’ve really changed are the terms of my contract.”

So, there you have it. What more could you possibly want? Oh, you want the actual game? Oh. Right.

Deadline’s reporting that Chronicle director Josh Trank has signed on to direct the Shadow of the Colossus film from Sony Pictures, after requesting the position. The report states writers are currently being interviewed. Trank, is apparently a very busy man: he’s supposedly discussing developing Fantastic Four for Fox and Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony Pictures, and is also reported to be working with Warner Bros on an adaptation of Red Star, so who knows how long it will be before SotC is released. A movie based on the Team ICO masterpiece has been in the pipeline Joystiq.

Siliconera has posted a translation of part of the official guide to Shadow of the Colossus, previously available in Japanese only. Members of Team Ico discuss designing the game’s titular enemies, fitting the world together around them, nailing down the game’s distinctive aesthetic, and more. It’s well worth a read if you’re keen on Team Ico’s output; the studio’s third release, The Last Guardian, still has no release date.

Sony’s announced Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be made available next week on January 17 through PSN, and will run you $20 each. Crysis 2 will also be released through the service for $40, along with Rainbow Six Vegas and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, which will run you $20 each. We missed these in the avalanche of Tokyo Game Show videos that came our way yesterday. IGN’s gone up with at least more than 15 minutes worth of footage from the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. There’s the first five minutes of ICO, more than ten minutes worth from the opening of Colossus and more. They look utterly stunning, so go watch them after the break. Brian Dunn, Sony’s associate product marketing manager, has said on the PS Blog that the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection for PS3 will come with a voucher for two XMB Dynamic Themes, one for ICO and one for Shadow of the Colossus. The disc will also include video content from ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. More information on the collection is promised soon. The collection, which includes full 1080p HD and stereoscopic 3D support, 7.1 surround sound, and full PSN Trophy support for $39.99 hits stores on September 27.

Yeah. This is a lot more than just “good.”
