Mojang’s collectible card game Scrolls could end up going to free-to-play if sales don’t pick up soon. The game has been in paid beta since June, where it quickly racked up 100,000 sales. However since July it has only managed 10,000 sales, with around three or four thousand players a day.

Scrolls is getting a rather large update next month, which includes all sorts of customizations, a Judgement mode where you battle with random cards, over 40 new scrolls, and the option to be a spectator which will help novices learn the game. Scrolls, the collectible strategy trading card game from the creators of Minecraft, will be releasing in open beta on June 3, the developer announced today.
The game will be releasing on PC and Mac. It will cost you $20 during the beta. The developer has also released the launch trailer for the game which gives you a glimpse of what the game is all about. You can watch it after the break.

Mojang’s Tobias Mollstam has announced on the official company blog that user accounts for Minecraft, Cobalt and Scrolls will only require one sign-in. According to the post, once users create a Mojang account they will be able to use this universal sign in for the aforementioned titles. Basically, it’ll work in a similar fashion to Battlenet. Those who have an existing Minecraft account aren’t being forced into this, as it’s opt in only at this point. Thanks, Gamefront.

IGN reports a Mojang representative said a multiplatform release is “the goal” for upcoming card-trading battle game, Scrolls, previously confirmed for PC only. The game is being built on the Unity engine, which supports Android, Flash, iOS, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. Scrolls is expected in 2012 and will have some free-to-play features.
