Nelson‘s announced that this week’s Live Deal of the Week is Hasbro Family Game Night.

Looks like EA and Popcap are planning to release downloadable games on DSi.

Popcap’s Bookworm will land this month, and Bejeweled Twist in mid-October while Bookworm for DS will launch December 1 and Bejeweled Twist during Q1 of 2010.

EA’s Scrabble and Littlest Pet Shop are coming this fall, while MySims and Sudoku were released yesterday. Downtown Texas Hold’em and unannounced original titles will be available later this fall.

Facebook app Scrabulous is fighting the law: the law’s winning. As a result of ongoing litigations with Scrabble IP-owner Hasbro, the Scrabble clone is no longer sitting pretty on the social networking site.

Users who attempt to log into Scrabulous, instead of engaging in a rousing session of time-wasting fun, now receive a succinct message prompting them to sign up for a mailing list that will send out updates about Scrabulous’ status.

We can’t help but wonder why Hasbro didn’t simply purchase Scrabulous and feed off the app’s existing user base, but it looks like they instead chose to roll the dice.

Hasbro’s announced the launch of legal action against the creators of Facebook’s Scrabulous.

The news comes after the firm request that the Scrabble-alike be removed from the networking site earlier this year fell on deaf ears: you can still play the game while managing your online popularity.

“Hasbro has an obligation to act appropriately against infringement of our intellectual properties,” said Barry Nagler, Hasbro’s General Counsel.

“We view the Scrabulous application as clear and blatant infringement of our Scrabble intellectual property, and we are pursuing this legal action in accordance with the interests of our shareholders, and the integrity of the Scrabble brand.”

EA is currently working on iPod and iPhone versions of the classic word game, for release this year.

EA’s just announced that it’s opening games for the App Store – launching today – are Tetris, Sudoku and Scrabble.

According to this AP story, EA will be releasing a “proper” version of Scrabble on Facebook, after making moves to close down the popular Scrabulous earlier this year.

EA spokeswoman Trudy Muller said the video game maker’s offering would be “an authorized, licensed Scrabble game experience that people familiar with Scrabble can instantly recognize as Scrabble.”

Apparently, the rights for Scrabble are split between the US and Europe, which means you won’t be able to play the game with your Facebook friends over the pond. Genius. More through the link.

Speaking here, EA Hasbro Studio boss Chip Lange has backed up yesterday’s partnership announcement with an interview about how simply wonderful the whole deal is. Chip’s properly loving it.

Hasbro’s back catalogue is “unmatched by probably any other toy or game IP holder,” he said. “Let’s just put it this way: There are far more brands there than I could ever operationalize at this company. So it’s an embarrassment of riches.”

Go Chip. Scrabble, Yahtzee and some younger stuff was announced yesterday. All the Americans are begging for a GI Joe game as well, but we’re British, so we don’t understand why.

Looks as though the nuking of Scrabulous last month wasn’t exactly coincidental. EA today confirmed Scrabble and Monopoly for multiple platforms as part of a sizeable deal with Hasbro. Did you know EA had a “Hasbro Studio”?

“EA and Hasbro want to give families new ways to enjoy games; we want give them a new way to come together, connect, spend time and have fun around the TV or online,” said Chip Lange, vice president and general manager of EA’s Hasbro Studio. “Bringing the spirit of these games to life as video games has allowed us to create really unique and creative experiences for families and friends of all ages to enjoy together at home or online.”
