Stalin vs. Martians trailer is the strangest thing ever

stalina

If you aren’t familiar with Mezmer Games’ upcoming Stalin vs. Martians, then the trailer posted after the break should give you an idea what to expect if the title doesn’t.

Seriously. We don’t know what to say about it.

Developed by the Russian firm Black Wing Foundation, the RTS features a self-explanatory storyline with gameplay featuring power-ups and “other mechanics not typically seen in the genre”.

According to the website:

“The martians leave spots on the map, plagued by the extraterrestial slimelike substance. That goo improves the enemy units’ stats the way power-ups improve ours. We need to clean the land out of this shit.

“Our game is unique. Trashy and absolutely over-the-top, arthouse kitsch production in its finest. With a good technical basis and some healthy gameplay innovations. Stalin is anything but boring and it looks pretty like schoolgirl with a kitten. Can you ask for more?”

Stalin vs. Martians is expected to arrive on digital download services in April.

DirectX 10 and Vista required for Stormrise PC

stormrise

Looks like if you want to play Stormrise on PC you better get an upgrade if you already haven’t: apparently the RTS will be one of the first to require both DirectX 10 and Vista.

“Stormrise has been designed for DirectX 10 and Vista only right from the start,” said Stormrise lead designer Artem Kulakov, who later clarified: “Vista only. DX10 only. No fallback option. We have never suggested this or hinted at it, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.”

“DX10 has offered a lot of advantages over DX9,” he added. “First of all, DirectX 10 allowed us to simplify the rendering engine.

“It matches capabilities of next generation consoles better than DX9, which is important for us considering that Stormrise is a multi-platform title. We had fewer driver-specific compatibility issues with Stormrise compare to our previous games released with DX9.”

Game’s out this month for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Creative Assembly: Fighting piracy with staggered releases is “pointless”

stormrise1

Creative Assembly’s communications manager, Vispi Bhoptihas, has said that trying to fight priacy is “pointless”.

Speaking to Videogamer.com regarding upcoming RTS Stormrise, Bhoptihas said that releasing a PC title later than its console version is no way to combat the problem.

“That’s pointless,” he said. “If people are going to pirate a game they’re going to pirate a game. All you can do is delay the piracy, really. But that’s just the nature of the beast.

“We are a PC developer, that’s where we started, so you do what you gotta do. We’ve got Games for Windows Live activation, so it’s pretty solid.”

Game’s out in March for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Microsoft: Age of Empires not coming to an end

Ensemble may be cranking out Halo Wars while the carvers put the finishing touches on its tombstone, but the developer’s most-beloved RTS franchise isn’t going anywhere.

“Microsoft continues to own Age of Empires,” Xbox boss Shane Kim told Edge.

“It is not losing Age of Empires itself. We’re still super excited for the potential for the franchise. The Windows gaming world continues to evolve, and we believe in the future of that property.”

He also reaffirmed Microsoft’s support for the PC platform with a hearty “absolutely” and a promise of more first-party titles to come.

Check out the link for the rest of Kim’s musings.
