Yet more responsible games activity towards children from the UK today, this time in the form of a promotional stunt for Rise of the Argonauts.
Codemasters is offering a year’s worth of games to anyone stupid enough to name their child Jason in return for a small amount of money. Someone should give little Alfie a shout. He’s bound to have a few boys next week.
“Any parent who names their new son Jason will be eligible to win a year’s supply of the firm’s videogames on their chosen platform,” says the press release, after the break.
“All they have to do is fax, post or email a copy of the birth certificate to firstname.lastname@example.org for the opportunity to enter the prize draw.”
Assuming someone actually does this: shame on you.
PR after the break.

See Rise of the Argonauts lead designer Charlie Price explain the action RPG’s levelling system over at Kotaku.
You can power up through deeds and dialogue, apparently, and if we’re being honest, the combat on show looks very satisfying indeed.
RotA has slipped from its November release date, but is still expected to reach us sometime this year.
Now go watch.

Codemasters is to translate all its major upcoming games into Russian as part of a “global drive,” the firm announced today.
Rise of the Argonauts, Damnation and Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising are all getting the Cyrillic treatment.
“Codemasters has targeted Russia as a front-line territory, key to our overall EMEA strategy” said Codemasters’ Axel Herr, probably while thumping a table.
“Localisation and tailoring of content is key to our emerging market strategy and Codemasters is keen to continue leading the charge in these fast-evolving markets.”

That’s it, pretty much. Codemasters and Front Magazine have teamed up to take pictures of Alex Sim-Wise branded with Rise of the Argonauts stuff. There’s a six-page feature on it in the latest issue, apparently.
There are three wallpapers of Sim-Wise wearing pretty much nothing after the link. Eh, lads? Eh?

Speaking to Gamespot, Liquid Entertainment boss Ed Del Castillo has said that upcoming action RPG Rise of the Argonauts won’t focus on grinding. Specifically, there won’t be boars. Or rats.
“We have a rich, compelling story for the player first and foremost, and all the gameplay mechanics serve this experience,” he said.
“If you’re playing this game to kill 5,367 boars and rats or to min max your character, you’re going to be disappointed. Instead, we have streamlined RPG features, slick, brutal real-time combat, and a truly compelling world that begs to be explored.
“But the crucial design decision, which we took early on, was that everything in the game is there to support a compelling, narrative experience. To borrow the cliché, it’s kind of an all-killer, no-filler approach.”
Game’s out for PC, 360 and PS3 before the end of the year.

After the link. Action-RPG fans would have to be a bit daft to not be looking forward to this. Looks like 3D Titan Quest with a plot. We’re signed up, to be honest. PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this year.

In an interview with RPS, Liquid Entertainment designer Charley Price has likened the firm’s action-RPG, Rise of the Argonauts, to BioWare smash Mass Effect.
“Every choice has a demonstrable impact on your character and the world,” said Price. “Beyond that, we offer a rich, cinematic narrative experience akin to Mass Effect, with all the great characterization and important decisions that fans of that game will appreciate.”
There’s a lot more through there, and the game sounds better all the time. Have a read.

It’s out at the end of the year for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Word to the wise: watch for a lot more on the game on Monday next week.
