Speaking to Gamespot, Insominac chief Ted Price said that Resistance 2 is almost done. Phew.
“The game is just about finished as I write this,” he said. “Yet the three to four weeks before we deliver a final disc to the factory are always the most difficult.
“This is when we’re fixing bugs, adding tons of polish, making tuning tweaks, and trying to keep our builds stable for the testing team. What’s great is that all of our features are in, and the game is looking, sounding, and playing fantastic. Resistance 2 has become everything we hoped it would be.”
Loads more through there. We’re still waiting on a European date for the shooter sequel, but America gets it on November 4.

Sony’s opened applications to the Resistance 2 public beta, as you can see here.
We’re assuming you can get onto this no matter what your region: we just logged in using our PSN ID, and we’re based in the UK.
You need to fill out a standard form and email invites will be sent out at an unspecified date.
“We’ll notify you via e-mail if you are accepted into the Public Beta,” says the page.
“Space is limited. So, if you want to get a chance to try out all the new multiplayer features in Resistance 2, such as the 8-player co-op and up to 60-player competitive multiplayer, apply now! Good luck!”
Go go go.

SCEE’s announced a multiplayer demo for Europe this October, but has unfortunately failed to give a solid date.
“The event will allow PS3 owners the opportunity to be the first to explore new levels, modes and weapons – as well as provide Insomniac Games, the developer of Resistance 2, and SCEE with feedback on the game,” a SCEE rep said on the European PlayStation boards.
“No further details are available as yet, but we’ll bring you more info as soon as we have it.”
SCEE told us today that the shooter’s European date would be confirmed “fairly soon.”

Following confirmation of specific Resistance 2 release dates for both Japan and the US, SCEE has said it isn’t ready to do the same for Europe right now.
“In European territories we’ve only ever said November,” a spokesperson told VG247. “We’re not making announcements as of the specific date just yet.”
When can we expect to hear?
“It should be fairly soon,” the rep added, but refused to say specifically when.

After the link. The quality’s not amazing, but you can see what’s going on. Basically, poor old Nathan’s in a spot of bother. Don’t spoil yourself if you want to stay fresh for what is almost certainly going to be one of the biggest games of the year. Do if you don’t.

This is a bit “omglol,” but there we are. An IGN contest to allow gamers to pick the cover of Resistance 2 has shown an “Only on PlayStation” logo in the corner of the designs.
That’s it. And we’d pick the third one.

In the wake of July’s NPD figures, we thought we’d look at just how well the ‘big three’ have fared over the last seven months by tallying all hardware data for 2008.
We all know Nintendo is having a fantastic year, but just how well is Wii doing?
Microsoft and Sony are fighting their own high-def battle, but how big is the margin between the two, and who has the lead?
After the drop.

According to this Kotaku piece, the Resistance multiplayer beta has gone live.
There’s no solid detail there, aside from the fact that those on the beta have been notified by mail. If you didn’t – and bear in mind that beta slots haven’t been offered in Europe yet – don’t worry: there are going to be loads of ways in, we’re assured.

As you can see from this post on the US PS Blog, Europeans in the crowd wondering if you were going to be able to buy yourself into the Resistance 2 beta through today’s episode of Qore are in for a disappointment: you can’t.
“While there is an R2 beta planned for Europe, you won’t be able to get into it through North America’s Qore,” said a spokesperson, presumably from SCEA. “More details will be announced as we get closer to the launch of the beta.”
It also says there that buying one episode of the Future America PSN show won’t get you access either. Americans will need to buy a subscription. Blimey.

Following an announcement overnight that the third episode of US PSN show Qore would contain an invite to the Resistance 2 beta, Insomniac’s moved to allay fears that the only way gamers are going to get in is by paying and confirmed that pre-ordering will allow access.
“Lots of confusion thanks to the Qore announcement,” said a spokesperson, posting on MyResistance.net.
“Here’s the deal. We are running a Public Beta, and you will have many ways to get in. The best way which will give you the earliest access to the beta will involve a pre-order program that should be announced soon, (for those of you who don’t know what pre-ordering is, you essentially reserve your copy with five dollars down, and that five dollars will go towards the price of the game when it releases).”
There’s also confirmation there that those outside America will be able to get in on some early anti-alien action.
“For all of you folks outside of North America are up in arms because Qore is NA only, please don’t worry. This is one of many ways to get in, and we plan to make the beta available in all territories, as we need to test all servers and worldwide play.”

Looks like Sony knows exactly what gamers want for, er, whatever holiday happens in September.
According to an email sent out by the company, Qore buyers will be granted admittance into a Resistance 2 beta, apparently coming this September.
The news is a real coup for Qore, and will surely raise questions about how publishers and developers are monetizing “free” content.
We doubt that’ll stop many people paying for the episode, though.

PSU’s posted up some new Killzone 2 shots, showing ably that the Guerilla shooter’s no slouch in the graphics department. There are a few old ones in there, but what the hey. Have fun.

This looked fantastic to us last night, but we haven’t had time to watch it again yet. Below is the Sony E3 press conference trailer of Resistance 2, showing giant cityscapes and the super-monster, the Leviathan. Check it out.
Tue, Jul 15, 2008 | 22:12 BST
SCEA just showed resistance 2 in its E3 press conference, and it’s looking hot.
The demo showed the Leviathan in a cityscape, with Nathan firing rockets from a rooftop at its head. Stunning stuff.
Nathan worked around inside a building with a machine gun then through girder bridges as the monster attacked.
Insomniac boss Ted Price talked about the game’s eight-way co-op and 60-player online play.
A new trailer was also shown, with alien ships floating to dramatic radio messages, but no date for the game was given.
The conference is ongoing.
